Kings to Showcase Technology, Innovation at Upcoming Game

Sacramento, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings are hosting Tech Night on March 22 to showcase cutting-edge technology and celebrate their dedication to innovation. Recently, the Kings have been labeled as SportTechie’s Most Tech Savvy Team of 2016 and Fast Company’s #1 Most Innovative Company in Sports and events like Tech Night provide another opportunity to use technology to redefine the fan experience.

Tech Night will feature innovations presented by team partners, showcasing creative ideas. The team’s unique partnership with LEXUS will bring a first to Golden 1 Center. The LEXUS LIT IS, a custom 2017 Lexus IS wrapped in LED lights and is capable of displaying dynamic graphics, will make its first-ever appearance at a major sporting event. And at halftime, Golden 1 Center will turn into a digital battleground as one of the world’s leading eSports champions will take on a local Sacramento tournament winner in a game of Super Smash Bros. on VSP SKEYEVIEW – the NBA’s only 4K Ultra HD video board.

To wrap up the evening, the winner of the Kings and Moneta Ventures’ entrepreneurial contest, Capitalize, will be announced during the fourth quarter of the game. This contest saw applicants with vastly unique ideas—with innovations to improve healthcare, healthy food options and other exciting consumer applications.

“We’re using technology to not only redefine the fan experience but also provide world-class entertainment both on and off the court,” said Kings Chief Technology Officer Ryan Montoya. “Being able to celebrate not only the innovations at Golden 1 Center, but also from around the region with our Capitalize contest makes Tech Night more meaningful.”

Many of the Capitalize finalists are graduates from regional universities and colleges —Sacramento State, UC Davis, Sacramento City College and Chico State. In celebration of the contest finalists, the Mayor has invited the companies, guests and judges associated with the Capitalize contest to join him in the City Suite to watch the game.

“Sacramento is bursting with creative capital and many young entrepreneurs pushing their innovative ideas to the next level,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “The Kings and Moneta Ventures have done an incredible job highlighting some of our best local startups that are not just contributing to, but are transforming our creative economy.”

The three finalists pitched their innovative ideas to a panel of investors, tech executives and local innovators and beginning today, they are asking for Kings fans to vote. Each finalist has turned their pitch into a short video to be shared in the arena and online to earn as many votes as possible.
