The Golden State Warriors have acquired 12-time NBA All-Star guard Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards in exchange for forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., guard Jordan Poole, guard Ryan Rollins, a 2027 second round draft pick and a 2030 first round draft pick (top 20 protected), it was announced today.
Paul, 38, was acquired by Washington via trade with the Phoenix Suns on June 24 after averaging 13.9 points, 8.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.54 steals in 32.0 minutes over 59 games (all starts) last season in Phoenix. He ranked fourth in the NBA with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.60:1 and owns a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.98:1.
An 18-year NBA veteran, Paul owns career averages of 17.9 points, 9.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.10 steals in 34.4 minutes over 1,214 regular season games (all starts) with the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans), Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Suns. His teams have qualified for the postseason 15 times—including each of the last 13 seasons—with Paul averaging 20.0 points, 8.3 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.93 steals in 36.5 minutes over 149 career playoff games.
An 11-time All-NBA and 9-time All-Defensive Team selection, Paul was named as a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team as part of the league’s celebration during the 2021-22 season. He has led the league in steals six times and assists five times, ranking third in NBA history in both categories behind only John Stockton and Jason Kidd.

Originally selected by New Orleans with the fourth overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft out of Wake Forest University, Paul earned NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2005-06. He is a two-time Olympic Gold medalist, helping the United States to first-place finishes in 2008 and 2012, and was named Most Valuable Player of the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.
Baldwin Jr., 20, appeared in 31 regular season games as a rookie with the Warriors last season, averaging 3.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 7.3 minutes over 31 games. He appeared in three of the team’s postseason games, logging 11 minutes. He appeared in 20 games with Golden State’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, averaging 12.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 26.7 minutes. The Warriors originally selected Baldwin with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft.
Poole, 24, tallied career highs of 20.4 points and 4.5 assists to go with 2.7 rebounds in 30.0 minutes over 82 games (43 starts) with Golden State last season. Originally selected by Golden State with the 28th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, he owns career averages of 15.8 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 26.3 minutes over 266 games (115 starts) in four seasons with the Warriors. In 2021-22, Poole led the league in free throw percentage (92.5%) during the regular season before helping Golden State capture the 2022 NBA championship with a postseason scoring average of 17.0 points per game on 50.8% from the field, 39.1% from 3-point range and 91.5% from the free throw line. In two postseasons with Golden State, Poole compiled averages of 14.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 25.4 minutes over 35 games (nine starts).

Rollins, 21, appeared in 12 games as a rookie with Golden State, averaging 1.9 points, 1.0 rebounds and 5.2 minutes in 12 games. He appeared in 19 games with Santa Cruz, tallying averages of 19.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 25.6 minutes. Originally selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, Rollins was acquired by the Warriors in a draft night trade on June 23, 2022.
