Stephen Curry (26), Jimmy Butler III (21) and Moses Moody (20) combined for 67 points to lead the Warriors to a 120-97 victory over the Orlando Magic at Chase Center on Monday. In addition to their three 20-point scorers, Brandin Podziemski led all reserves with 16 points and led the game in plus-minus at a career-best plus-36 in 28 minutes. The Magic nearly had three 20-point scorers too — Paolo Banchero scored 21 points on 19 shots, Desmond Bane had 20 points on 8--for-16 shooting and Anthony Back scored 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting — but their bench was outscored by 15 points (36-21).
The Warriors shot just 1-for-10 from three in the first quarter and made just 11 threes overall at a 29.7 percent clip, but combated their perimeter shooting woes with 62 paint points. They also had a distinct 24-9 advantage in second-chance points.
BUTLER III’S FIRST HALF
Jimmy Butler III scored 16 points in his first 16 minutes on Monday, continuing a highly aggressive and productive offensive stretch. Butler made five of his first six field goal attempts and six of his first seven free throw attempts over that span. He finished with 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting, marking his third straight game with 20-plus points.
CURRY’S PERFECT THIRD QUARTER
Stephen Curry bounced back from a 0-for-6 3-point first half by scoring 15 points on a perfect 6-for-6 from the field with three made 3-pointers in the third quarter. Curry scored eight straight Warrior points in the quarter, getting groovy after his second 3-pointer of the sequence by adding a little extra to his signature shimmy celebration. Curry finished with 26 points, six assists and four made 3-pointers in 31 minutes.
MOODY MOVES UP FRANCHISE 3-POINT LIST
Moses Moody made franchise history, passing Monta Ellis for 15th on the Warriors’ all-time made 3-pointers list (352 3PM). Moody sank three 3-pointers and finished with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
ELITE FOURTH QUARTER VIBES
The vibes were high at Chase Center, especially during a 13-0 late second-half run that helped the Warriors go deeper into their bench and give their veterans some much-deserved rest. Buddy Hield, who had fallen out of the rotation the past few games, hit his lone 3-pointer attempt, prompting the entire bench to mimic his signature celebration, and when Pat Spencer went to the free throw line with 14 seconds left and the game already decided, he was serenaded with MVP chants.
