TOM JAMES, VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNICATIONS

More than 30 years after joining the organization as an unpaid intern in the fall of 1988, today, Tom serves as SS&E’s vice president of communications. During his tenure, TJ has helped turn the Spurs into an iconic brand while experiencing five NBA Championships, 11 trips to the Western Conference Finals, and 28 playoff berths.

Born and raised in Guilford, Vermont, Tom is a 1990 graduate of Trinity University. After playing two seasons of varsity basketball, logging less than 100 minutes in his NCAA career, Tom was hired as a broadcast intern in October 1988. Shortly after graduation, he landed a full-time position with the Spurs, spending one season as the team’s broadcast assistant before being named the Spurs Media services manager in 1991. In 1994 he became the Spurs director of media services and, in December of 2019, was named SS&E’s vice president of communications.

Tom and his wife, Rachel, have a six-year-old son, Jack. Unlike his father, Jack is passionate about Pup Academy, bubble baths, and Pop Its.
