Willie Green recaps win over LA Clippers | Pelicans vs. Clippers Postgame 3/15/24
Pelicans Head Coach Willie Green
On his team’s defensive effort tonight:
“It was fantastic. We’re all super proud of how we responded, taking care of home floor. Our guys collectively, they made winning plays after winning plays. It was a fun game to be a part of.”
On what stood out to him in the final stretch:
“I thought our defensive winning plays: contesting shots, boxing out–we had three, four guys diving on the floor for loose balls, going after 50/50 basketballs. Those are winning plays. That was a playoff-like game. You guys can feel it in our building, and that’s what it’s going to take: that type of togetherness, that type of sense of urgency and endurance to endure for 48 minutes.”
Zion Williamson on home crowd, big scoring night | Pelicans vs. Clippers Postgame 3/15/24
Pelicans Forward Zion Williamson
On clinching the season series against the Clippers:
“It was on our mind, in a sense that every game matters. If we want to be in a good spot with the standings, we have to win every game, so that’s the mindset.”
On what is important when guarding Kawhi Leonard and Paul George:
“Communication and being physical. Paul George and Kawhi (Leonard), they’re both elite shot-makers, so they’re going to hit some shots, but, just being physical and still communicating was the game plan.”
On his second half scoring outburst:
“I’m a competitor. I want to win. Simple as that.”
Trey Murphy III on Zion Williamson, Herb Jones | Pelicans vs. Clippers Postgame 3/15/24
Pelicans Forward Trey Murphy III
On how the Pelicans defend so well:
“Do I need to say it again? I can say it again. Herb Jones. He is our defensive leader. He runs the defensive game-plan a lot of times, and we listen to him. He’s like our linebacker, per se. He’s been patrolling the defensive seas for us, and so we’re just
following suit, like I’ve said many times before.”
On the playoff-like atmosphere:
“Sensational, I must say. It was really nice. It reminded me of those late season games that we had the last two years, and I just hope it continues to be like that.”
