New Orleans Pelicans vs Detroit Pistons Postgame Quotes for Preseason Game 2 | 10/7/22

WIllie Green recaps Preseason Game 2 | Pelicans vs Pistons Postgame Interview 10/7/22

Pelicans Head Coach Willie Green

On the growth of tonight's game:
“Starting with our ball security, it’s going to be key for us. If we can take care of the basketball, we gained extra possessions, rebounded the ball. We did a pretty decent job with that. I thought it was an overall solid game.”

On the defensive performance of Pelicans Guard, Dyson Daniels:
“Fearless, defensively he doesn’t get rattled by not being able to score the ball at times. He’s 19 and to have that level of maturity is pretty spectacular to see. Big play down the stretch where he got the steal and things like that. He just keeps
playing. I played him a lot of minutes and I know he got winded towards the end but those are things he needs to get accustomed to doing and winning time he was on the floor and that’s 2 games he’s come up for us.”

On Jose’ Alvarado Improvement from this offseason:
“His confidence, he has a great understanding of what we want. That's what we want from him, to come in and have a spark. It was fun to see.”

Pelicans Guard Jose Alvarado

On how much he has been working this summer:
“I worked on just being more confident in myself from last year. I’m just learning and trying to be more consistent. I’m not the most athletic, so my floater and jump shot have to be there. It’s mostly about just locking in this whole season and being
confident. My teammates always look for me and make my job easier.”

On the importance of being aggressive with looking for his shot:
“It’s important for me and for my confidence. When I’m out there, I have to at least be a little bit of a threat. When I’m out there with CJ (McCollum), B.I. (Brandon Ingram), and Zion (Williamson), they’re going to leave someone open, and they’re not going to leave them open. They’re going to see, and I’m going to make them pay. Me making shots will make them second guess and think that they can’t just leave me open. I just want to do my part as being a threat out there.”

On the depth of the Pelicans’ roster:
“I think it’s special. I think it’s really special against a team like Detroit. They play hard and physical the whole game. I also think it was good to see the second group go out there, and not just hold them off, but to win the game was big. Not just for them but for their confidence as well.”

On Jose Alvarado and how he has looked in training camp:
"Jose is hard to describe, but you just know he’s going to bring that passion and energy to the game that you would want to see from anybody. He knows how to make himself a threat. Don’t let him fool y’all, he just had 28 (points) and how many rebounds? Five? He’s doing this off the bench. We have a special group.”
