Willie Green recaps loss to Chicago Bulls | Pelicans Bulls Postgame 2/25/24
Pelicans Head Coach Willie Green
On losing a 12-point lead and not getting stops:
“Yeah, you’re right. It came down to about that second. Definitely swung the momentum a bit, but it came down to us. I mean, the turning the ball over, not giving ourselves an opportunity to come down and run a good offense, get down in transition and get easy baskets, and then, we fought back into it and gave ourselves an opportunity at the end of the game, and same deal. Those clutch situations, turnovers, missed free throws – tonight we had all of those happen.”
On if CJ McCollum and Jose Alvarado being out contributed to the Pelicans 19 turnovers:
“Yeah, that definitely plays a role in it but we can’t use that as an excuse. We were going to have some guys out here and there. We can come down and execute, we can come down and make simple plays. When we did it, we got great looks, quality
looks, and that’s what you want. You know every play’s not going to be a home run play for us, but making quality plays, simple passes, and then letting it come out and watch – when we do it, we’re much better. But, nineteen turnovers – that’s extremely difficult to overcome against a hard-nosed team like Chicago.”
Zion Williamson on limiting mistakes, building chemistry | Pelicans Bulls Postgame 2/25/24
Pelicans Forward Zion Williamson
On playing point guard:
“It’s very enjoyable. Like I said before, I’m just glad my coaches and teammates trust me to do that. What I see is, I’m aggressive on the attack, but if there are four people there and I have shooters wide open, I just find them. I kind of look for
where the help is going to come from and once I locate that I just find the shooter or the open man.”
On Herb Jones’ ability to shoot threes:
“You can’t just leave him open. Before, you could tell teams would try and leave him open, but what is he shooting from three? 40 [percent]? 41 [percent]? He’s shooting a high-clip to where, in my opinion, every time he has a three, I think it’s good. So, I
feel like other teams are definitely starting to respect that a lot. I mean, you all have seen him, he gets downhill very well. His offensive game is just improving and improving.”
Brandon Ingram on return from illness | Pelicans Bulls Postgame 2/25/24
Pelicans Forward Brandon Ingram
On how he feels after returning from illness:
“A little winded. I started off good, but got a little fatigued in the second half. I am trying to get my wind back but it's hard.”
On if fatigue led to mistakes tonight:
“For sure, but I don't like to make excuses. I have to be better and be more decisive with the basketball. I have to be on target and direct the team better.”
