Willie Green on win over Houston | Pelicans vs Rockets Postgame 2/22/2024
PELICANS HEAD COACH WILLIE GREEN
On Zion Williamson’s offense:
"He was great. This is what happens when you put the ball in his hands, especially early. He's finding CJ (McCollum), Trey (Murphy III), Herb (Jones), JV (Jonas Valančiūnas), and he has moments where he sees something and he likes it and will continue to attack it. When he's playing like this, he's tough to stop."
On Herb Jones' performance:
"Herb brings it every night on both ends of the floor. We never question his effort. When he has nights like tonight, he's guarding everybody. He's getting steals, getting deflections, getting blocks, rebounding the ball, shooting the ball well. We can see how important he is to this group."
On being home after being on road for so long:
"It's great playing in our building in front of our fans. Our guys get pumped up to play here. The fans get us going."
PELICANS FORWARD HERB JONES
On CJ McCollum’s performance:
"He came out and emphasized the importance of attacking the first game of the back-to-back, and I think he did a great job setting the tone for the rest of the team to follow.”
On what changed in the second half:
“We just continued to compete defensively throughout the whole game. We knew they were going to go on a run, we just had to sustain it, continue to play hard on the defensive end and play confidently on the offensive end.”
PELICANS CENTER JONAS VALANCIUNAS
On Herb Jones’ performance:
“Well, offense is offense, but he was tremendous on defense. He sparked us on defense, what led us to the easy break. Again, he was the one who was running big time. So, he's everywhere. He's very high energy and this is something amazing.”
On Zion Williamson’s performance:
“He's been doing that all season. He's been getting everybody involved. Finding the right plays, easy ones, and also scoring at a high-level. Going to the basket [he] is impossible to stop.”
