The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Miami Heat 94-90 in the MGM Resorts Summer League at Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday.
While there were only three ties and eight lead changes in the contest, it came down to the final seconds. Atlanta finished the game on a 16-5 run across the final four minutes of action. Neither club ever grabbed a double-digit lead in this tightly-fought battle. The Hawks ended up outscoring the Heat in fast break points 22-4. Atlanta also shot 87% from the free-throw line while Miami hit just 64.3% (9-for-14).
Skylar Mays led the Hawks with 26 points, four rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Jalen Johnson finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell amassed 18 points, three rebounds and four assists. Admiral Schofield led the bench with 12 points and six boards.
Max Strus led Miami with 24 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Omer Yurtseven totaled 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists. DeJon Jarreau collected 14 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and three steals.
Atlanta’s next game will be on Monday against the New York Knicks. As for Miami, they’ll wait to see how the seeding plays out in the coming days for the Summer League tournament.
