Las Vegas Summer League: Clippers outlast Jazz for first win in Vegas

The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Utah Jazz 94-90 in the MGM Resorts Summer League at Thomas & Mack Center on Sunday.

While there were seven ties and six lead changes, the Clippers rode a 30-21 second quarter to pick up its first Summer League victory. While the final margin was only four points, the Clippers held the lead for the entirety of the second half, running their advantage up to as much as 14 points. The Clippers shot 46% from the field, 45% from 3-point range and 68% from the free-throw line while holding the Jazz to 42%, 29% and 58% respectively.

Amir Coffey accounted for five of the Clippers’ 13 3-pointers on the night while on his way to a game-high 20 points. He also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Keon Johnson totaled 17 points and six rebounds. Second-round pick Jason Preston provided 16 points, two rebounds and five assists while Daniel Oturu — a second-rounder in 2020 — had 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

Former Kansas standout Udoka Azubuike led the Jazz with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and three steals. Trent Forrest generated 18 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals. Elijah Hughes amassed 17 points and seven rebounds while Jarrell Brantley collected 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

The Clippers’ next game arrives Monday against the Grizzlies. The Jazz, meanwhile, will await the seedings of the Summer League tournament.
