Orlando Magic and AdventHealth Unveil State-of-the-Art AdventHealth Training Center

ORLANDO - As part of the Orlando Magic and AdventHealth's continuing commitment to health and wellness, the DeVos family, Magic and AdventHealth unveiled today the state-of-the-art AdventHealth Training Center. The new downtown facility will serve as the training site for the Orlando Magic and a destination sports medicine hub to Central Florida.

Together, AdventHealth and the Orlando Magic continue to build an innovative health and wellness model that brings whole-person medicine, science and research together to optimize sports performance, bringing those learnings to the broader community.

"We share in the excitement of this facility and our desire that it becomes a true 'win-win' for Central Florida and the Magic," said Orlando Magic Chairman Dan DeVos. "We believe when this community succeeds, we all succeed. With health and wellness being a priority to a successful life, we look forward to seeing this center contribute to achieving that for both our community and our team."

The center, one block from Amway Center, boasts 130,000-square-feet located on a nearly four-acre site at South Division Avenue and West Central Boulevard. The $70 million facility marks the latest investment in the Parramore community.

The Magic’s portion of the center is designed to optimize performance and provide world-class recovery space. A large team "family room" acts as the facility’s hub, complete with enhanced nutrition offerings and a full kitchen. The facility also includes two full-size courts overlooked by an elevated viewing balcony. Leading training and recovery technologies, including an altitude chamber and hydrotherapy offerings as well as an expansive locker room with high-end finishes, will elevate the player experience.

Each partner provides a unique aspect, enhancing the state-of-the-art experience and commitment to health and wellness.

Additional design elements include covered exterior patios and decks, a creatively landscaped outdoor team space and indoor/outdoor training space to capitalize on Orlando’s warm climate. The facility will also include front office and hospitality spaces that celebrate the Orlando Magic’s brand and history.

"The Orlando Magic are thrilled to join our great, longstanding partner, AdventHealth, in making our goals and vision a reality today," said Magic CEO Alex Martins. "Through this collaborative partnership and much hard work and determination we have a world-class training center for our Magic players, coaches and support staff stacked with the resources and technology to make it one of the best in the NBA. Our players, coaches and staff can't wait to get in and get started."

“First and foremost, without the commitment by the DeVos family and AdventHealth, we would not be here today,” said Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “This center is a game changer and the investment speaks to how much we care for the well-being of our players and for those that work hard every day to provide them a platform to reach their full potential.”

AdventHealth’s 33,300-square-foot medical hub – designed for elite athletes, as well as youth athletes and weekend warriors – provides world-class, multi-discipline medicine with a focus on whole-person health and sports science. Services will include orthopedics, primary care, sports medicine, imaging, rehabilitation and sports performance. Patients will also have access to AdventHealth’s network of sports-trained gastroenterologists, cardiologists, sleep, psychology and nutrition experts.

“AdventHealth and the Orlando Magic have a shared a longtime commitment to inspiring and helping our neighbors be the healthiest they can be. Through our partnership, we’ve cared for Central Florida in a variety of ways, and I’m excited for this new opportunity to expand our philosophy of whole-person care to whole-athlete care,” said President and CEO of AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division Randy Haffner. “Whether you’re working to get back to playing in the yard with your grandkids, completing your first 5k or dreaming of going pro, our sports medicine experts are ready to support your personal health and athletic goals. The AdventHealth Training Center is a resource for all, and I’m excited for this next chapter in our partnership.”

The project incorporates sustainable design strategies including daylighting and strategic sun shading, stormwater management, and advanced mechanical and lighting systems and controls.

The Orlando Magic and AdventHealth also furthered its commitment to Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) with the awarding of $17 million of design and construction contracts for the project to 33 local MWBEs. That amount represented approximately 32 percent of awarded opportunities, which is over the city's recommended 24 percent MWBE participation.

The facility was designed by HOK, with Balfour Beatty serving as the construction manager.

By Josh Cohen, OrlandoMagic.com

The AdventHealth Training Center is a game changer for Orlando Magic players. Inside is an array of ultramodern equipment, technology and services for them to optimize their performance, reduce injuries and extend their career longevity.

The design of the facility combined with the training features helps players both physically and mentally. Included are two practice courts with six baskets, an 8,000+-foot state-of-the-art weight room, a float pod, an altitude chamber, a full body cryotherapy chamber, sauna and steam rooms, recovery and massage rooms, aquatic spaces, an outdoor turf, a large kitchen and dining area, and much more.

Magic Weight Room

It was back in January of 2021 when the DeVos family, the Magic and AdventHealth announced the more than 130,000-square-foot training center located on a nearly four-acre site at South Division Avenue and West Central Boulevard.

Together, AdventHealth and the Magic are building an innovative health and wellness model that brings whole-person medicine, science and research together to optimize sports performance, while bringing those learnings to the broader community.

AdventHealth is a “Champion of the Community” partner of the Orlando Magic, and has been a partner for more than 30 years. Magic “Champion of the Community” partners represent organizations that are committed to improving the lives of all Central Floridians.

“The Orlando Magic organization is thrilled to broaden its longstanding partnership with AdventHealth. Their commitment to clinical excellence, advancing medicine and improving the health of our players and entire community is unrivaled,” Magic CEO Alex Martins said. “This best-in-class training center will provide Magic players, coaches and our human performance staff with the resources and technology necessary to excel in an increasingly competitive NBA landscape. This facility, combined with the unique care model we’re developing together, will make an immense difference for our players.”

Magic Locker Room

This new practice venue will help attract prospective free agents as well, showing players the organization's commitment to their skill development as well as physical and mental health.

“The practice facilities around the NBA have become somewhat of an arms race and we are thrilled with the commitment of the DeVos family and AdventHealth,” said Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “This center is a game changer and the investment speaks to how much we care for the well-being of our players and for those that work hard every day to provide them a platform to reach their full potential. In addition, this facility will be a huge factor for those players who may be considering us as a free agent destination.”

Here's a more in-depth look at some of the equipment, spaces and partnerships at the AdventHealth Training Center that enhances the state-of-the-art experience and a commitment to health and wellness:

Altitude International Altitude Chamber

Targeting aerobic capacity and endurance, the chamber helps players train at different altitude levels. As an athlete trains inside, their body has to work harder to cope with the adaptations. This will increase the number of red blood cells in the body, according to LiveScience.com, which then sends more oxygen to the muscles. The Magic are partnering with Altitude International Holdings for this technology and will be the first NBA team to have a custom-built, simulated altitude chamber in their facility.

Float Pod

A sensory deprivation pod that helps relax the body and mind simultaneously. Full of water and a high dose of Epsom salt, the floating pod is a multifaceted tool to decrease anxiety and relieve muscle pain. It provides the feeling of weightlessness and shuts out all sights and sounds.

Full Body Cryotherapy Chamber

A quick way to get full body cold exposure for recovery. This treatment typically lasts for under three minutes. There are several health benefits of cryotherapy. One of the main ones, according to Healthline.com, is that it numbs nerve irritation.

Hydro Area

Featuring hot and cold plunges for recovery after workouts. They will also be used for contrast baths. Within this space, there is a small pool that includes an underwater treadmill by HydroWorx. This comes in handy when a player is recovering from a lower body injury as it allows them to run at a reduced body weight.

Infrared Sauna and Steam Room

Critical for players to increase their body’s core temperature and detox. According to Sunlighten.com, “infrared sauna use produces sweat containing 80% water and 20% toxins while conventional sauna use produces sweat containing 97% water and only 3% toxins.”

Jani-King

A commercial cleaning program tailored to fit the AdventHealth Training Center's needs of each player, patient, doctor and personnel. Clean floors and regular dusting not only improve the overall health and safety of the facility, but will also have a direct impact on the positive morale of those working in the building every day.

Kitchen and Dining Area

Nutrition is a major part of athletic performance, development and recovery. Well aware of that, the Magic designed over 8,000 square feet to the kitchen and dining areas in the new training center. There is even an outdoor barbecue space where players are able  to eat healthy meals right off the grill.

Other notable additions are an expansive locker room with high-end finishes designed to elevate the player experience, two full-size courts overlooked by an elevated viewing balcony, covered exterior patios and decks, a creatively landscaped outdoor team space and indoor/outdoor training space. The facility also includes front office and hospitality spaces that celebrate the Magic’s brand and history.

Medical Evaluation Rooms

A huge benefit of sharing space with AdventHealth is that the Magic now have on-site medical care in the same facility. If an MRI or CT Scan is needed, for example, that equipment is right there.

Outdoor Lap Pool/Outdoor Turf Space

Many players like to swim for cardio conditioning. The turf outside, meanwhile, is used for running sprints and performing other track-related activities.

Verizon

Verizon provides the infrastructure for cellular coverage throughout the facility.

Violet Defense

Violet Defense is a UV disinfection technology installed throughout the facility utilizing powerful, broad-spectrum light, including germicidal UV-C, UV-B, UV-A, and violet-blue enhancing its germ-killing efficiency.

Volta

Five Volta EV charging stalls are installed in the outside surface lot near the stadium entrances for fans and guests and an additional five stalls, with ten collective charging ports, are available for staff and team usage within the underground parking facility. Volta's public EV chargers, such as those installed at the AdventHealth Training Center, support the rapid transition to electric mobility by making charging accessible and convenient for all.
