ORLANDO – The Orlando Magic’s opening night of the 2025-26 regular season is already off to a good start.
After shootaround on Wednesday, the Magic announced that guard Jalen Suggs is expected to play in the team’s season opener against the Miami Heat at Kia Center at 7 p.m. ET.
“It’s very rewarding,” said Suggs. “I haven’t sat with it too much yet. I’ve really just been excited to get to 7 (p.m.). Just going through shootaround this morning (and) watching the film intently, knowing that I’m going to use these things tonight (with the ability) to come out and put them into action. It feels great.”
Suggs worked relentlessly with Orlando’s training staff to make a return on opening night a possibility. The 24-year-old guard’s 2024-25 season was cut short after suffering a trochlea injury in his left knee.
“I’m super happy for him,” said Magic forward Franz Wagner. “We definitely need Jalen. His energy, (his) defense, (and ability) to make big plays. (He’s) one of our most important players on the team.”
The Gonzaga University alum played in 35 games last season with Orlando, averaging 16.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.46 steals in 28.6 minutes per game.
While his ball handling, 3-point shooting and playmaking will certainly give the Magic’s offense a boost, without a doubt the biggest bonus of having him back on the floor comes from Suggs’ defensive tenacity and high-energy level.
“We know what he brings to the table,” said Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley. “His energy, his toughness, (and) his defensive presence as the head of the snake defensively. Also, his controlling of the floor on the offensive end.”
