ORLANDO – The International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) honored Amway Center with the 2017 Venue Excellence Award during the 92nd annual VenueConnect Conference and Trade Show in Nashville, Tenn. The award is bestowed upon facilities that excel in the management and operation of public assembly venues. Amway Center was the only arena to garner this distinction.

To determine excellence in venue management and operations, IAVM used the following four criteria:

  • Operational Excellence
  • Team-building/Professional Development
  • Safety & Security
  • Service to the Community

“What an incredible honor for the Amway Center to be recognized with the 2017 Venue Excellence Award,” said Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins. “The Amway Center was built with the patron in mind first. That customer-centric vision for safety, security and creating memorable experiences is a priority for each staff member at every event. The Magic recognize and congratulate all of our partners and Orlando Venues for their tireless work in making Amway Center a legendary facility.”

"What a tremendous accomplishment for the Orlando Venues team and their many valued partners," said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. "The Amway Center continues to set the bar high and this award is something our entire community can be proud of."

The Venue Excellence Award annually recognizes five publicly or privately owned/operated IAVM venues of any type within the membership. Venue category types include amphitheaters, arenas, auditoriums, casinos, complexes, convention centers, exhibit halls, fair/festival grounds, performing arts centers, race tracks, stadiums and university venues. IAVM takes pride in its members and member venues’ commitment to providing their communities with a safe and enjoyable space for a variety of events and educational opportunities.

"The Amway Center has won numerous awards and accolades since opening its doors in October 2010 but this honor is particularly gratifying because it's presented by our arena-operating peers," said Orlando Venues Chief Venue Officer Allen Johnson. "While the building is still spectacular, this recognition instead is about all the people who operate it and ensure our patrons have memorable moments in a safe environment. They are the heart and soul of this venue and they continually strive to make it truly legendary."

Amongst the many nominees, recipients of the 2017 Venue Excellence Award include:

  • Amway Center – Orlando, Fla.
  • Cox Business Center - Tulsa, Okla.
  • Georgia World Congress Center Authority - Atlanta, Ga.
  • Music City Center - Nashville, Tenn.
  • San Diego Convention Center Corporation - San Diego, Calif.

The Orlando Magic served as the developer of the Amway Center.
