Cohen 8-Ball: To Keep Or To Trade?

Pau Gasol

Cohen's Analysis (Feb. 3, 2014): Gasol has basically been on the trading block every day for the past four years. He even was a part of an approved trade that would have sent him to Houston before it was annulled (the Chris Paul-to-Lakers deal).

Though there is all that talk that Kobe Bryant will return this season – which seems irrational considering L.A. will be in position for a high draft pick this June – the Lakers should probably move Gasol while he still has some value. They may not get anything spectacular in return, but the Lakers might as well continue in their rebuild efforts. A hindrance is clearly Pau’s price tag for this season. An opposing team would have to relinquish a lot to equal Gasol’s salary and accept the fact that he is a rental and a free agent-to-be this summer.
