LeBron Recalls First Game in Sacramento

“It’s going to be a very special moment tonight,” said LeBron James to ABC 10’s Sean Cunningham during shootaround in preparation for Wednesday’s tilt against the Kings.

James’ NBA career began on October 29, 2003 in Sacramento, as the No. 1 pick made his professional debut in front of 17,317 eager eyes. The then 18-year-old showed the national ESPN audience and Kings faithful a glimpse of his potential, scoring a game-high 25 points in addition to nine assists, six rebounds and four steals. As the buzzer sounded though, it was Sactown that emerged victorious, defeating the Cavaliers 106-92.

“I’ll always have a special memory and a heartfelt moment in this building,” said the Cavs star. “It means a lot.”

“They had a great team at the time and were winning a lot of ball games,” stated James, who recognized the purple and black as an impressive team that was fresh off several playoff appearances.

“It was just great to be a part of an atmosphere like this in my first game, it was pretty cool.”

LeBron will get to take the Sleep Train Arena court for one final game on Wednesday night, 12-plus years after his career began on the same court.
