Kings Honor Mayor Kevin Johnson

During the second quarter of Monday night’s Sacramento Kings game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson was honored at Golden 1 Center. Starting in December 2008, the Sacramento native served his hometown as mayor for the past eight years and officially concludes his tenure Tuesday, December 13.

The former NBA star helped fight for the Kings to remain in the Capital City of California. He helped spearhead the effort that found the Kings a new ownership group led by Vivek Ranadivé, which ultimately led to the development of a new downtown arena.

Golden 1 Center stands as a testament to the legacy he leaves on the city. Emblazoned on the arena wall between sections 123 and 124 is his statement that helped usher in a new era of Kings basketball: “Let’s do this Sacramento.”
