Preview: Kings (29-46) at Pelicans (32-43)

Entering tonight’s matchup, the New Orleans Pelicans greet the Kings coming off a close win over the Dallas Mavericks. In a high-scoring affair, the Pelicans left the Smoothie King Center with a three-point victory over the visiting Mavs, 121-118.

In the winning effort, five different players scored in double digits. They were led by Anthony Davis, with a big double-double of 30 points and 13 rebounds. At over 50 percent, he shot well from the field for the Pelicans. Former King DeMarcus Cousins also played a role in the victory, chipping in 29 points and 16 rebounds. The Mavericks also had five double-digit scorers, led by Dirk Nowitzki, but it was not enough to secure a win.

In the first matchup between the Pelicans and Kings since the midseason trade between the two teams, Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway, and Tyreke Evans return to New Orleans.

The Kings enter The Big Easy on the heels of a 112-82 loss to the Utah Jazz. Ben McLemore had a strong first half, scoring 17 points in the second quarter. But, the Jazz had six players finish in double-digits, led by Gordon Hayward. McLemore led the Kings with 22.

Key Matchup

Davis will keep the young big men of Sacramento busy. Averaging the most points and rebounds per game he has as a professional, Davis is having the best campaign of his NBA career. He enters the matchup with four straight 30-point performances and seven-straight double-doubles.
