Nearly a month from the start of training camp, Kings Head Coach Dave Joerger joined ESPN’s Zach Lowe on “The Lowe Post” to discuss a variety of team-related topics.

Beginning with his choice to take the coaching duties reigns in Sacramento, Joerger’s responses continually reinforced his desire to build a long-term identity for the team.

“I think it’s time for the cement to dry here and lay down the foundation and do some things consistently and have some people in place,” shared Joerger. “I felt assured of that coming out here and a good relationship with Vivek Ranadivé, our owner, and also Vlade Divac made me very comfortable about the direction we can go and doing it together.”

Lowe also inquired about the fourth-year head coach’s relationship with Kings All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, who flew into Sacramento to meet Joerger following his introductory press conference.

“We’ve had a good beginning to our relationship, a good start this summer. I think the Olympic experience is only going to help him.”

Joerger went on to discuss Ben McLemore’s offseason workouts, rookie Skal Labissiere and the 2016-17 season, reminding Lowe that building the desired identity isn’t an overnight process.

“It’s not going to happen by Christmas, it may take a while, but like I said, hopefully we can lay the foundation and do it the right way going forward.”
