Game Recap: Wizards 84 - Cavs 94

Wizards 84 - Cavs 94

Game Recap

The Wizards fought back from a double-digit second-half deficit to take a fourth quarter lead, but could not sustain that lead and fell, 94-84, to the Cavs on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

It was the second unit who sparked the comeback, as the team opened the fourth quarter on a 14-0 run. But, Kyrie Irving was too much down the stretch, along with Anderson Varejao's 23 rebounds, which were the difference in the game.

Jordan Crawford led the team with 11 points, Emeka Okafor added 10, and Bradley Beal scored eight in his NBA debut.

Next, the Wizards host the Celtics for their home opener on Saturday night at Verizon Center.

Beal on NBA Debut:
“I should have played a lot better than I did. I think I got lax. I felt good at the beginning of the game and made some shots, and then I got lax and kind of disappeared.”

Beal on Pregame Jitters:
“I was prepared. I was ready. I approached it as just another game. I talked about just having fun. Unfortunately, we lost.”

Beal on Second Half:
“Our second halves are always better than our first halves. We have to come out and start being more aggressive in the first half.”

Wittman on Game:
“That wasn’t the team I’ve seen the last four weeks. I don’t know if it was because it’s the first game or not. Execution offensively was horrendous. We were doing things out on the floor that I’ve never seen these guys do before. We tried to be somebody we weren’t and that wasn’t good. We’ve got to go back to the drawing board and try to find our team.”

Wittman on Irving:
“Irving was pretty good tonight. He’s a good player. He dictated tempo of the game and he was a big factor.”
