Adidas, the official oncourt apparel provider for the National Basketball Association (NBA), today unveiled the uniforms and apparel collection for the 65th NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 14 in Toronto.  The uniforms incorporate elements indigenous to Canada and pay homage to Toronto’s NBA history, passionate basketball fans and cosmopolitan energy.

“This is the first NBA All-Star Game to be played outside the United States, and it is a very exciting time for basketball in Canada,” said Chris Grancio, adidas global basketball general manager.  “To honor this global celebration and pay tribute to Toronto – the site of the NBA’s first game – we’ve incorporated design elements that are inspired by the city’s basketball history, sports culture and unique fashion scene to make an All-Star collection that players and fans will love.”

The red-and-white Western Conference and white-and-blue Eastern Conference uniforms feature a maple leaf overlay on the front of the jerseys as a tribute to the national symbol of Canada, while Toronto’s cityscape is featured across the back to represent the host city.  Clean, single-layered fonts are a nod to the NBA’s early days in Toronto, where the first NBA game was played on Nov. 1, 1946 between the Toronto Huskies and New York Knickerbockers.

A star patch that incorporates the maple leaf and NBA logo is displayed on the upper back of the uniforms, while black-and-gold jock tags display the Toronto Raptors’ alternate team colors and claw logo.  Featured on the jersey’s neck liner and shorts’ draw strings is a mosaic of flag colors that represent the multinational makeup of the league’s players.

The NBA All-Stars will sport warm-ups that embrace Toronto’s winter fashion and style.  Black and heather gray fleece jackets include star patches that acknowledge the number of NBA All-Star appearances for each player, while patches on the right zipper pocket call out the game’s top accolades, including: Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, NBA All-Star Game MVP and NBA Championships.  The oncourt warm-ups also include a performance fleece shooting shirt and tapered pant with white and gold trim.

NBA All-Star jerseys ($70 - $110), as well as a full range of NBA All-Star apparel, including adult and youth T-shirts ($20 - $30), adult track jackets ($110 - $200) and headwear ($20 - $26), will be available on NBAStore.com in January. The NBA family got an up close look at the passion Toronto has for basketball during the 2014 postseason. On Wednesday they got another step closer to experiencing it for themselves. The Toronto Raptors unveiled the logo for the 2016 NBA All-Star Game on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference held at the CN Tower. The venue is important to note, because the logo features the “All-Star Toronto” branding wrapped around the infamous CN Tower silhouette with a 2016 scroll along the tower.
The 65th NBA All-Star Game will be held Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Air Canada Centre. Toronto will be the first venue outside of the United States to host the weekend and its festivities. Along with a devoted fan base eager to experience all that All-Star has to offer, the weekend will also provide an opportunity for the city to showcase all of the things that have made its players fall for the north.

Secondary logos for the weekend include the NBA’s “star “ logo in red, white and blue wrapped inside a red maple leaf as well as an All-Star toque featuring a clawed star in grey and black, a nod to the team’s new logo for the 2015-2016 NBA season. Merchandise is already available at Real Sports in-store and online.

The logo was presented by Toronto Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong, Toronto Tourism Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Andrew Weir, NBA Canada Vice President and Managing Director Dan MacKenzie, CN Tower Chief Operating Officer Jack Robinson and 2014-2015 NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins. The weekend will tip off on Friday, Feb. 12 with the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge, with State Farm All-Star Saturday Night following on Feb. 13.
Wiggins was named MVP of the Rising Stars challenge during the 2014 All-Star weekend in Brooklyn two months before becoming the first Canadian-born player to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. During the 2014-2015 season there were a record 12 Canadian players on NBA rosters, more than any country outside the United States. Canadian Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers will compete in the NBA Finals beginning next week.
The league announced via press release that All-Star 2016 would celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of basketball. Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian, invented the game in 1891. Toronto also hosted the first game in NBA history on Nov. 1, 1946, at Maple Leaf Gardens. The game has been growing rapidly in Canada and Toronto's fan base has earned the reputation of being one of the greatest across the league.
In addition to the unveiling of the All-Star logos, MLSE president and CEO Tim Leiweke also referred to the Raptors' plans for a D-League team in the near future to add to the team's development program. Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri addressed the team’s desire to push for a team during his season-ending availability. Getting to cross that off the to-do list is another huge positive in what is sure to be a big year for professional basketball in Canada with February's All-Star weekend serving as a much anticipated highlight.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) today unveiled the logo for NBA All-Star 2016 in Toronto – the first NBA All-Star to be held outside of the United States.  The logo design pays tribute to the iconic CN Tower, the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere and the crown jewel of Toronto’s skyline.

The announcement was made earlier today at the CN Tower by Toronto Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong, Toronto Tourism Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Andrew Weir, NBA Canada Vice President and Managing Director Dan MacKenzie, CN Tower Chief Operating Officer Jack Robinson, and 2014-15 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins, the first Canadian-born player to win Rookie of the Year.  The 65th NBA All-Star Game tips off on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Raptors.

The logo, designed in collaboration with the Raptors, integrates the CN Tower silhouette with the team’s red, white and black colors.  Additional secondary logos include a signature NBA “star” logo inside a dynamic maple leaf and an All-Star toque logo, featuring a clawed star, which pays tribute to the popular accessory worn during Canada’s winter months.

At 2:00 p.m. ET today, the All-Star 2016 logo was unveiled on the @Raptors and @NBACanada Twitter account using the hashtag #NBAAllStarTO. Fans can purchase adidas NBA All-Star 2016 logo T-shirts now on NBAStore.com.  The T-shirts are available in both men’s and women’s sizes and retail for US$23.95 and up.

Additional details on tickets, schedule and other All-Star information will be released at a later date.

NBA All-Star 2016 in Toronto – the first All-Star to be held outside of the United States – will bring together some of the most talented and passionate players in the league’s history for a global celebration of the game.  The 65th NBA All-Star Game, which will take place Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Air Canada Centre, will reach fans in more than 200 countries in more than 40 languages.  TNT will televise the All-Star Game for the 14th consecutive year, marking Turner Sports’ 31st year of All-Star coverage.  The Air Canada Centre will also host the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, Feb. 12 and State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Saturday, Feb. 13.  Other events at NBA All-Star 2016 include the Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, the NBA Development League All-Star Game presented by Kumho Tire and the NBA Development League Dream Factory presented by Boost Mobile.  NBA rosters at the start of the 2014-15 season featured a record 12 Canadians – more than any country outside the United States.  The 2014-15 regular season also generated significant increases in national television viewership in Canada for both the NBA (+73%) and the Raptors (+75%).

It was over when: Russell Westbrook made two free throws with a second remaining to secure a 163-158 victory for the Western Conference.

The game-changer: Westbrook finished with a game-high 41 points, one shy of Wilt Chamberlain’s All-Star Game record of 42. Westbrook set the All-Star record for points in a half when he scored 27 first-half points in 11 minutes.

Lowry’s 1st All-Star experience: Eastern Conference starter Kyle Lowry played 26 minutes and scored 10 points on 4-for-13 shooting. Lowry dished a team-high eight assists to go with three rebounds and four steals. 

The Toronto highlight: After an early layup from Lowry, Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge asked him where the dunk was. Lowry’s next basket was a put-back dunk off of a miss from Washington’s John Wall. During his post-game press conference, Lowry said it was the first time he had dunked in a game since 2009.

26…minutes for Lowry in the game, trailing just LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and John Wall for minutes played on the Eastern Conference roster.

Kyle Lowry hasn’t stopped moving since he got to New York City on Thursday. From media availabilities and television and radio appearances to Saturday night’s Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Lowry has done everything but relax during his break. Don’t worry about the frenetic pace, though. The Toronto Raptors point guard is soaking up every moment and thrilled to be taking in his first All-Star experience.

“It’s been exciting,” Lowry said. “It’s been crazy. Long days, but it’s worth it, especially being my first time. I’m just super excited to be here right now. Every single thing I've been doing, the media, the T.V., all that stuff it’s been all day and it’s something new. It’s been fun for me.”

For a guy who is more comfortable on the basketball floor than in a crowded media scrum, Lowry has thrived under the bright lights of All-Star alongside the rest of the NBA’s elite.

Lowry has been patient and appreciative of everyone wanting to hear him explain how it feels to have found a home in Toronto, lead the Raptors to second place in the Eastern Conference, and have a career-best season. Even when having to answer the same questions time and again with each new wave of reporters crowding around his media table during availability sessions.

That patience is part of how Lowry ended up in New York City, selected as a starter for Sunday’s main event.

“Just growing up,” Lowry said. “Becoming more mature and more understanding of myself and just working. Not being settled. Not settling for anything. Never being satisfied. And just going out there and doing my job.”

In between events, Lowry could often be spotted chatting with ESPN analyst Chauncey Billups, a former Finals MVP with the Detroit Pistons who played 17 years in the NBA. Lowry has credited Billups with helping him learn how to be a successful leader. To have Billups on hand during a career highlight was especially nice for Lowry and his family. Being selected as a starter in his first All-Star weekend experience added to the excitement factor.

“I don't think you can draw the script up any better,” Lowry said.

Getting a late push from fans across the country, Lowry was sure to explain to the assembled media in New York how much he appreciates the support he and his teammates have been given by Raptors fans worldwide.

“The advantage of playing in Toronto is not playing for one city, you’re playing for a country,” Lowry said. "We know that and we appreciate it. You’re not just playing for one city in Toronto, you’re playing for Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton. You’re playing for the whole country.

“Our fan base in Toronto is crazy,” he continued. “Every single night we sell out. The fans come there and support us and they do a great job of coming out cheering loud and showing their passion and electrifying the building.”

During Saturday night’s festivities, Canadians let everyone know they were in the building at Barclays Center, giving Lowry the loudest ovation of any participant in the Skills contest. As great as it is to hear the home crowd at the Air Canada Centre, it’s equally thrilling to feel that support on the road.

“Canadians are all over the world,” Lowry said. “When they get a chance to support their team and show up, they’ve been doing it. We love it. We appreciate it. It’s fun when our fans are in other people’s buildings chanting our name.”

With all that Lowry has given to the franchise since arriving in Toronto in the summer of 2012, Raptors fans will be cheering his name long after the glow of All-Star weekend fades
