Raptors Select Bruno Caboclo In First Round Of NBA Draft

The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they selected 18-year-old Brazilian forwardBruno Caboclo (cuh-BO-clo) with the 20th overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft. In the Draft’ssecond round, the Raptors took forward DeAndre Daniels from Connecticut with the 37th pick.

Caboclo, 6-foot-9, 205 pounds, was the Most Valuable Player at the 2013 BasketballWithout Borders Americas. He played in 16 games this past season with Pinheiros (Sao Paulo)where he contributed 4.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. In three Liga Americas contests, heaveraged 8.0 points shooting .714 from the field and .667 from three-point range.

Daniels, 6-foot-9, 195 pounds, averaged 13.1 points and a team-best 6.0 rebounds lastseason for UConn. He shot .417 from three-point range. In the NCAA tournament, he averaged16.0 points and 7.2 rebounds in six games to help lead the Huskies to the National Title. He wasnamed to the All-Final Four team.

The Raptors traded the 59th pick, Xavier Thames of San Diego State, to the BrooklynNets for cash considerations.
