AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Pistons were one of the first NBA organizations to decide that providing timely and consistent reporting of their basketball team – games, practices, trades, hirings, behind-the-scenes news and human-interest features – was something that should be delivered on the team’s Web site, Pistons.com. Now they’ve taken steps to deliver that news faster and more frequently.
The bottom line: It will be more user friendly and supply more information for Pistons fans who have come to rely on Pistons.com as their source of information for their favorite team.
The blog written by Keith Langlois, Pistons.com editor, will still be found in its usual spot on the Web site. In fact, it will now be a permanent fixture among the featured stories of the day. The new blog, accessed at Pistons.com, will have the Web address www.pistons.com/news/truebluepistons.html.
“I’ve been looking for a vehicle that would allow me to get information out more often and in a more timely manner,” said Langlois, who took over as Pistons.com editor before the 2006-07 season after covering the team for 20 years – starting just as the Bad Boys were in their ascendancy – as the sports editor and lead sports columnist at The Oakland Press. “We think we’ve found the perfect way to do it. For instance, I can post an hour or so before tipoff what the active roster is that night, or whether an injured player is ready to return.
“I’ll be able to get quick blurbs out when a trade or something of similar impact comes down – ‘The Pistons just picked up Juan Dixon at the trade deadline; check back in an hour when I find out all the details’ – but I can also alert basketball fans about other aspects of the organization, like special ticket offers or Pistons Dancers appearances or summer youth camps that direct them to the spot on Pistons.com where they can find out more about the things of special interest to them.”
