DETROIT PISTONS ACQUIRE JAMES WISEMAN FROM GOLDEN STATE IN FOUR-TEAM DEAL

Team Sends Saddiq Bey to Atlanta and Kevin Knox to Portland

DETROIT – Feb. 9, 2023 – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has acquired center James Wiseman from the Golden State Warriors in a four-team trade which sends forward Saddiq Bey to the Atlanta Hawks and forward Kevin Knox to the Portland Trail Blazers.  

Wiseman, 7-0, 240, was selected second overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Warriors.  He’s appeared in 60 career NBA games (27 starts) and averaged 9.9 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 54% from the field in 18.3 minutes per game.  As a rookie, Wiseman recorded averages of 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 39 games. 

A native of Nashville, TN, Wiseman played one season at the University of Memphis where he saw action in three games and averaged 19.7 points (77% FG), 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks.  As a high schooler, he was named 2018-19 Gatorade National Player of the Year and Morgan Wootten Boys Basketball Player of the Year as a senior at Memphis East High School.

 Bey was acquired by the Pistons from the Brooklyn Nets on November 19, 2020 as part of a three-team deal.  In 204 career NBA games (165 starts), he’s averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists.   

Knox signed with Detroit as a free agent on August 1, 2022.  He’s appeared in 42 games (one start) this season and averaged 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.  Overall, Knox has averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 254 career NBA games with New York, Atlanta and Detroit.
