Pelicans Add Three Players to Training Camp Roster

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has signed Kevin Jones, Dionte Christmas and Vernon Macklin to their training camp roster. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Jones, 6-8, 260, spent the 2013-14 season with the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League where he averaged 16.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, earning a selection to the 2014 NBADL All-Star Game. This summer, Jones was a member of the Indiana Pacers’ summer league team. Undrafted out of the University of West Virginia in 2012, Jones was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers, appearing in 32 games and averaging 3.0 points and 2.4 rebounds.

Christmas, 6-5, 205, appeared in 31 games last season for the Phoenix Suns, averaging 2.3 points and 1.8 rebounds. Undrafted in 2009, Christmas spent the first four years of his professional career overseas with clubs in Israel, Turkey, Czech Republic, Greece, Russia and Italy. Christmas finished his collegiate career at Temple University with 2,043 career points, becoming only the fourth player in school history to eclipse the 2,000-point mark while earning back-to-back Atlantic 10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player awards in his junior and senior seasons.

Macklin, 6-10, 227, was the 52nd overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. In 23 games with Detroit, Macklin averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds. Most recently, Macklin played for Liaoning of the Chinese Basketball Association where he averaged 12.9 points and 5.7 rebounds. The University of Florida product was a member of the Orlando Magic’s 2014 summer league roster.
