NEW ORLEANS – The NBA announced today that New Orleans Pelicans forward/center Anthony Davis has been named to the 2016-17 All-NBA First Team. The distinction is the second in Davis’ five years in the NBA.
Davis, 6-10, 252, finished the season ranked fourth in the NBA points per game (28.0 – career-high), seventh in rebounds per game (11.8 – career-high) and second in blocks per game (2.2), becoming just the eighth player in NBA history to finish the season ranked among the top seven of all three categories. Davis finished the regular season with 49 double-doubles (ranked T-8th) and led the league with 12 35-point, 15-rebound performances. On February 19, Davis was named the MVP of the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, scoring an All-Star Game record 52 points.
Davis is joined on the first team with forwards LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs, and guards James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Named to the All-NBA First Team previously for the 2014-15 season, Davis becomes the first player in franchise history to be named All-NBA First Team multiple times and the second player to earn multiple All-NBA recognition. Previous players to earn All-NBA recognition include Jamal Mashburn (Third Team 2002-03), Baron Davis (Third Team 2003-04) and Chris Paul (First Team 2007-08; Second Team 2008-09; Third Team 2010-11).
