Game 26: Pelicans vs. Mavericks Postgame Quotes 12-5-18

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry

On tonight’s win:
"Well, I thought we started the game with a lot of energy. I thought Julius (Randle) had a lot of energy. We moved the basketball. We got out and ran. We did everything that we had to (do) to try and replicate what we did earlier in the season and I thought we did a good job with that."

On the impact of playing E’Twaun Moore off the bench:
"I thought it would be good and he would give us another ball-handler and another scorer off the bench and I thought it worked out great. I thought Solomon (Hill) did a good job as a starter. I thought he was solid. The shots that he took were good and I thought he was good defensively. The big thing was, I just thought, that we played with so much energy and we pushed the basketball. I mean, we ended up with 29 fast-break points. That’s what we have to try to do because it’s telling me that most of those points in fast-break are going to be pretty easy points, so we need to do that every night. But the assist thing is what’s great. I mean, we get 51 baskets and we got 36 assists and so that’s saying the ball is moving and we’re getting it to the right people."

Pelicans Forward Julius Randle

On tonight’s game and getting a chance to get going offensively with the start:
“It was just about coming in and no matter how long I played, I just wanted to play aggressive, play hard, and with energy. If I do that and focus on those things, everything else falls into place. My mindset doesn’t change, whether it’s starting or coming off the bench, I just try to focus on what I can control: my energy and my effort. And when I do that, I keep saying it over and over again, but everything will fall into place.”

On playing more minutes with Anthony Davis and the threat they are attacking the boards and how that plays into his current success:
“It was good. Anytime you share the floor with a guy like that, it’s always going to make the game easier. It’s a different dynamic. It’s a lot for defenses to really adjust to, so it’s been good.”

Pelicans Guard Jrue Holiday

On the win and his thoughts on how Julius Randle has been giving the team a spark with big stats the last few games:
“Keep it going. He makes it look easy and we feed off of him. When he has that energy, he’s a bull. He’s hard to stop.”

On the defensive effort tonight and the difference from the last game against the Clippers:
“I think we came out a little more aggressive. We were up a little bit more and tried to make it difficult on all of their guards. I think we rotated well. We covered and protected each other.”

On how the bench was so successful in helping in tonight’s victory:
“It’s huge to be able to play like that. When AD (Anthony Davis) goes out and you have that scoring power and defensive ability, it was really them stepping up and doing what they were supposed to do. Julius (Randle) who started, I’m pretty sure he was in with that group. I probably would’ve left him in the whole game to see if he could get 50. The way he’s been playing, it’s been awesome.”
