NBA 2K24 Summer League: Hawks handle Nuggets with second-chance scoring

The Hawks strong 2nd quarter and offensive rebounding helped them fend off the Nuggets on Sunday night.

The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Denver Nuggets, 98-93, in the NBA 2K24 Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Sunday.

There were seven ties and eight lead changes in this game, Atlanta rode on a 24-14 second quarter for their win. They never relinquished the lead in the second half after that lopsided frame, going on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to take command. The Hawks out-rebounded the Nuggets, 49-38, while outscoring them in second-chance points, 20-6. Atlanta shot 48% from the field, while holding Denver to 44% shooting.

The Hawks also out-assisted the Nuggets, 24-17.

The Hawks (1-1) were led by Tyrese Martin, tallying 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. Kobe Bufkin amassed 17 points, six assists and five rebounds. Brady Manek led the bench with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks, and Vit Krejci added nine points, three rebounds and six assists.

The Nuggets (0-2) were led by Jalen Pickett, providing 16 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Collin Gillespie generated 16 points, three rebounds and two assists. Peyton Watson totaled 15 points and two boards, while Hunter Tyson led the bench with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Rookie guard Julian Strawther missed 11 of his 13 shots.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, with Denver playing the Utah Jazz and Atlanta facing the Minnesota Timberwolves.
