NBA 2K24 Summer League: Wembanyama comes up big, Spurs lose close one to Trail Blazers

Despite Victor Wembanyama's 27 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, the Spurs fall to the Trail Blazers, 85-80.

Former Georgia Tech standout Michael Devoe outdueled No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a hard-fought 85-80 victory in the NBA 2K24 Summer League at Thomas and Mack Center on Sunday evening.

The potential showdown between Wembanyama and No. 3 overall pick Scoot Henderson suffered to a shoulder injury in the first game in Las Vegas. However, the French big man gave onlookers their money’s worth with 27-points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and one steal. Wembanyama and the Spurs overcame a 19-8 deficit after the first quarter to make it a competitive game.

Portland still managed to lead buzzer-to-buzzer with the help of Devoe’s game-high 29 points.

Dominick Barlow followed Wembanyama with 17 points, adding six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Blake Wesley contributed 14 points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal. Rookie second-round pick Sidy Cissoko finished with eight points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Devoe complemented his aforementioned scoring haul with five assists, two rebounds and two steals. Jabari Walker and Duop Reath posted matching 13-point efforts, while recording 11 and nine boards. Shadeon Sharpe furnished nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday night, with the Spurs tangling with the Wizards and the Trail Blazers facing the Hornets.
