Hawks Forward Paul Millsap Selected as NBA Eastern Conference All-Star Reserve

ATLANTA (Jan. 30, 2014) -- Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap tonight has been named as an Eastern Conference All-Star, selected in voting among the Conference’s coaches. It marks the first All-Star selection of his career. The 2014 All-Star game takes place on Sunday, February 16 at New Orleans Arena.

“It’s an honor to be chosen by the coaches as an All-Star,” Millsap said. “I know this wouldn’t have happened without the help and support of my teammates and the hard work of our coaching staff, and I’m proud to represent the Hawks in New Orleans.”

“This is a very well deserved honor!” said Hawks’ President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Danny Ferry. “Paul has been an All-Star player and an All-Star teammate for us. The Atlanta Hawks are very proud to have Paul representing the city of Atlanta and our team.”

On the season, the reigning NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week is putting up a career-high 17.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, career-best 3.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks in 33.3 minutes (.467 FG%, .369 3FG%, .749 FT%). He is the only player in the East, and one-of-two in the NBA, averaging at least 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks.

Among Eastern Conference power forwards, Millsap ranks first in ppg, apg, spg (12th overall in the NBA), FGM (280), FTM (164); second in bpg, 3FGM (career-high 41) and 3FG%; third in rpg, double-doubles (16), FT% and PER (17.86); and fourth in FG%. Millsap had made 31 triples in his career entering this season.

On 1/22 at Orlando, Millsap compiled 24 points, six boards, five assists, five blocks and three steals, becoming the first player in franchise history to ever reach those numbers in a game, and the first in the NBA since Dwyane Wade on 3/25/11.

The eighth-year veteran signed with the Hawks as a free agent on July 10, 2013.
