PORTLAND, Ore. (April 7, 2014) – The Portland Trail Blazers, widely considered pioneers in the greening of sports, will live up to that reputation on April 9th when they host the inaugural Rip City Eco Summit in conjunction with their sixth annual Green Game and NBA Green Week.

The team partnered with the Green Sports Alliance to introduce Rip City Eco Summit, presented by Natureworks and Ingeo. Sustainability leaders from across the country will band together for panel discussions and a special networking session for the summit’s attendees. The panel topics will range from the Greening of Sports to the Story of Sustainable Food Operations.

"We're excited to partner with the Portland Trail Blazers to host the inaugural Eco Summit at the Moda Center,” said Martin Tull, Executive Director of the Green Sports Alliance. “Environmental experts and sports executives are coming together to talk about the role that sports teams can play in reducing environmental impact and inspiring fans. It's another example of the Trail Blazers’ leadership on these crucial issues."

Throughout NBA Green Week, which runs April 3-10, Trail Blazers players will wear 100 percent organic cotton shooting shirts featuring the NBA Green logo. Players will also have the option to wear green headbands and wristbands made from 45 percent organic cotton, also featuring the NBA Green logo. Additionally, the coaching staff will wear NBA Green pins on their suit jackets.
