Scouting Manager

Sheri Sam was hired as the Scouting Manager for the Trail Blazers in March of 2022. In her position, Sam works closely with the rest of the front office in the evaluation of collegiate and professional players. She coordinates pre-draft scouting efforts as well as the scouting of draft prospects throughout the season. Sam enjoyed a 15-year professional playing career, including 10 seasons in the WNBA where she was a two-time WNBA Champion with Seattle in 2004 and Detroit in 2008, while being selected as an All-Star with Miami in 2002. She also spent three seasons in the American ABL (1997-99), earned three all-star appearances and played 12 seasons internationally in a host of countries. In 1996, Sam competed for Team USA as a member of the Jones Cup Team that won Gold in Taipei. Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, Sam served as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at Eastern Illinois from 2013-17. In 2020, she was named the Managing Director of the Northern California PGA Foundation. Sam is an alum of Vanderbilt, where she is a member of the Vanderbilt Athletic Hall of Fame and led the women’s basketball team to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Final Four in 1993.
