Trail Blazers 2022-23 City Edition Jersey Ranks High In Multiple Power Rankings

The 2022-23 Nike City Edition uniforms have finally launched with 29 out of the 30 teams in the NBA releasing new jerseys showcasing stories and the rich history that each city has to offer. Similar to weekly team rankings, many media outlets have created their own power rankings but this time comparing each team's City Edition uniform. The Blazers' "Uniquely Portland" design features the iconic PDX Carpet surely to catch the eye of those who ever walked through the Portland International Airport.

Jarrel Harris from Sports Illustrated has the Trail Blazers City Edition uniforms at No. 6.

"Jersey facts: This uniform proudly pays homage to the signature PDX carpet pattern, which reached local icon status in the 1990s and falls into the “uniquely Portland” category.

SI’s take: The City Edition uniforms are all about having fun with themes. Portland gets it."

Harris has the Trail Blazers uniform behind the Nets at No. 5 and ahead of the Suns at No. 7.

"Jersey inspiration: The Blazers are pulling inspiration from the airport carpet design that filled the floors of Portland's airport back in the '90s.

CBS Sports' take: OK, remember when I said the Hornets' abbreviation was confusing? This one is not. Everyone knows that PDX stands for Portland, and the fact that the Blazers decided to pay homage to a carpet design inside their airport from the '90s is the exact type of niche-ness I expect from this city and organization. The design is cool in itself, but the way they utilized it like the typical sash we've seen from them in the past is a nice touch."

Wimbish has the Trail Blazers uniform behind the Hawks at No. 4 and ahead of the Bucks at No. 6.

"The Portland Trail Blazers 2022-23 City Edition Uniform design falls respectively in the “Uniquely Portland” category. No other team would be as confident and quirky as to model their uniform design around an airport carpet pattern.

This City Edition uniform proudly pays homage to the Portland International Airport’s carpet which reached local icon status in the ‘90’s. The unique geometric shapes displayed over a bright teal base represented the view of the North and South runways as seen overhead by air traffic controllers. The cult following quickly grew as it became tradition for travelers arriving and departing out of PDX Airport to take photos of their feet safely planted on the colorfully patterned carpet.

The City Edition is a black-base design with a familiar “Blazers” sash featured across the chest brilliantly filled in with the teal and geometric-shaped carpet pattern. The letters “PDX” are featured on the front of the airport and is the official code for Portland International Airport as well as a common city nickname.

The gold trophy icon on the back neck symbolizes the team’s 1977 Championship. The shorts feature the team’s primary “pinwheel” logo on one side and continuation of teal carpet pattern on the other, while showcasing the team mantra, “Ripcity” on the belt buckle. #RipCityCarpet

I attended the University of Oregon and flew into the PDX airport countless times, so these get a stamp of approval from me."

Kalbrosky has the Trail Blazers uniform behind the Spurs at No. 2 and ahead of the Grizzlies at No. 4.

Jonathan Soveta and Michael J. Chandler from The Score have the Trail Blazers City Edition uniform at No. 4.

"Sadly, not enough teams rock sweet sashes in the NBA. The Trail Blazers, however, are almost synonymous with the diagonal mark, and they translate the successful recipe perfectly to their City Editions."

Soveta and Chandler have the Trail Blazers uniform behind the Celtics at No. 3 and ahead of the Hawks at No. 5.

Catch these jerseys in action for the first time on Tuesday, November 15 as the Trail Blazers take on the Spurs at Moda Center. The new City uniform is already available online, at the Rip City Clothing Co. locations at Moda Center and the new pop-up kiosk in Concourse C at Portland International Airport.
