Director of Basketball Communications

Maggie Yang starts her second season with the Portland Trail Blazers as Director of Basketball Communications after spending the prior three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. In her previous role with the Hornets, Yang assisted in generating player content for the team’s social channels and website, and she helped launch and contributed to Reel Access, the Hornets’ behind the scenes video series. The series was recognized at the 43rd Annual Telly Awards where Reel Access received a Bronze award for Best Online Non-Scripted Webseries. Yang also received a Bronze award for “Tarmac Talk” in the category for Social Video Series - Sports and Leisure. In addition to her content duties, Yang has worked extensively with players and coaches on their off the court appearances. She also acted as a contact for day-to-day basketball media requests with the Hornets. Prior to moving to Charlotte in February 2020, Yang spent the four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and FedExForum where she started as an intern in the Communications and Publications department in 2016-17. By the 2019-20 season, she was a manager within the department and acted as the main contact for team appearances and FedExForum event media needs. During her undergrad years, Yang gained public relations experience as a consumer press intern at Scripps Networks with HGTV, DIY Network and GAC where she worked with network talent and produced press releases. She also completed a production internship at NBC’s TODAY Show, assisting directors, producers and talent on set. A Memphis native, Yang earned a dual bachelor’s degree in media, culture and communications and broadcast journalism from New York University.
