Be It On The Court Or The Runway, Turner 'Brings It In New York'

NEW YORK -- At some point during the course of Evan Turner’s post-game interview with the media after the Trail Blazers’ 129-109 victory versus the Nets, the conversation turned to the ensemble the veteran wing out of Ohio State wore to Barclays Center Sunday afternoon. Between the patterned button up, black Chelsea boots, tightly-fitted pants, black fur peacoat and diamond-encrusted pinkie ring, Turner made quite the fashion statement, one that was noticed by both his teammates and the media alike. Said Turner of his outfit: “You’ve got to bring it in New York.”That comment could easily be applied not only to Turner’s fashion choices, but to his performance versus the Nets as well, as he turned in easily his best offensive performance as a Trail Blazer Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn. In just over 30 minutes of play, the 6-7 guard went 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-3 from the line for 19 points while also adding four rebounds and four assists without a single turnover, a performance that was integral in helping the Trail Blazers end a three-game losing streak while also picking up the first win of their current five-game road trip. “Obviously (Turner) made his shots, but I thought he looked like he had a good rhythm offensively,” said Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts. “The first half in particular, where he had a lot of shots that haven’t been falling for him, were falling for him tonight. Hopefully (he) turned a corner as far as finding shots in the offense.”Though Turner has drawn praise from his new teammates for his multifaceted skill set, there have been few times so far this season in which he looked as comfortable on both sides of the ball as he did Sunday afternoon versus Brooklyn. Some of that can be attributed to little more than his shots falling, though he did seem to look more at ease playing within the flow of Stotts’ offense than he did, say, in Friday’s loss to the Pelicans.  “That was the Evan Turner I’ve seen on film and watched in the past,” said Meyers Leonard, who had one of his better games of the season Sunday as well. “I watch a lot of NBA basketball and that’s the Evan Turner I think we all know: moves the ball, smart player, can score in isos. It was fun.”
