Wizards Recognize Local Icons with DMV Bobblehead Series

Washington, D.C. – As part of the Wizards’ 2023-24 “For The District” campaign, which recognizes and honors those who have made an impact and bring pride to the District, the team has unveiled a three-part DMV bobblehead series.

The series will feature Ben’s Chili Bowl’s Virginia Ali from Washington, D.C. (Jan. 15), tennis star Frances Tiafoe from Maryland (Feb. 10) and rapper Pusha T from Virginia (Mar. 17). The giveaways are available on each respective date.

To acknowledge and celebrate the many achievements and lasting impact Ali, Tiafoe and Pusha T have had on the District, the Wizards will donate $10,000 on behalf of each recipient to the Ben's Chili Bowl Foundation (Ali), the Frances Tiafoe Fund (Tiafoe) and the Black Girls Tennis Club (Pusha T).

When the Detroit Pistons come to Capital One Arena on Monday, Jan. 15, for a MLK Day matinee, the first 5,000 fans in attendance will take home a bobblehead of D.C.’s Virginia Ali. A civil rights activist, Ali is the co-founder of the famous U Street institution. The bobblehead will feature Ben’s Chili Bowl’s iconic red and yellow signage and will showcase Ali serving Ben’s signature chili dog. The base of the bobblehead will display the “Welcome to Washington, D.C.” highway sign.

Yesterday, Wizards guard Jordan Poole presented Ali with her bobblehead during her 90th birthday celebration at the Lincoln Theatre.

On Feb. 10 when the Wizards host the Philadelphia 76ers, the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Frances Tiafoe bobblehead. Tiafoe, from Hyattsville, Maryland, has won three Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) titles and is currently ranked in the ATP’s top-20. Tiafoe’s bobblehead will feature him wearing a Wizards uniform and holding a Wizards-branded tennis racket. The base of the bobblehead features the “Welcome to Maryland” highway sign in addition to Tiafoe’s name.

To conclude the DMV Bobblehead series the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Pusha T bobblehead when the Boston Celtics come to the Nation’s Capital on March 17. Pusha T is a five-time Grammy Award-nominated artist and Virginia Beach native. His bobblehead will showcase him in a Wizards Boundary Stone City Edition-inspired hoodie. The base of the bobble will also feature a “Welcome to Virginia” sign with Virginia’s signature slogan, “Virginia is For Lovers.”
