This weekend, the G League gathered in Las Vegas for the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase. All 28 G League teams participated in the four-day showcase, each playing a pair of games in front of scouts and front office personnel from around the NBA. All games played at the showcase count as standard regular season games for each team.

At the showcase, the Go-Go struggled to hit shots, shooting below 40.0% from the field in each of their games. The Go-Go lost 118-103 to the Iowa Wolves on Thursday night and 111-96 to the Austin Spurs on Saturday night. Jalen Jones scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, leading Capital City in scoring each game.

Garrison Mathews // Guard // Two-Way

Mathews spent the week with the Wizards, appearing in all four of Washington’s games. The rookie averaged 4.3 points on 44.4% shooting in 11.6 minutes per game. Against Toronto on Friday night, Mathews played 16 minutes, hitting 2-4 (.500) from the field on his way to six points, setting career highs in each of those categories.

Anzejs Pasecniks // Center // Two-Way

After playing 12 games with the Go-Go earlier this season, Pasecniks signed a two-way contract with the Wizards last Tuesday. He spent the week with Washington backing up Ian Mahinmi at the center position as the Wizards work through injuries across the roster. Pasecniks has appeared in all three games with the Wizards since signing with the team, averaging 6.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game. In his first game with the team, he scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds against the Bulls. Saturday night against the Sixers, Pasecniks scored a career-high 11 points on 4-6 (.667) shooting. Pasecniks will likely remain on the Wizards roster until the return of center Thomas Bryant, who is currently rehabbing a stress reaction in his right foot.

Justin Robinson // Guard // On Assignment

Last week: 2 GP / 9.0 PPG / 2.0 RPG / 5.0 APG

Robinson was the only one of the Wizards’ two-way or assignment players to make the trip to Las Vegas and played in both of Capital City’s showcase games. Robinson started the weekend with a 13-point, five-assist performance against Iowa in which he did most of hist damage from deep, hitting 3-4 (.750) from 3-point range. Against Austin, Robinson tallied another five assists to go along with five points in 33 minutes of action.

Admiral Schofield // Guard-Forward // On Assignment

Like Mathews and Pasecniks, Schofield spent the week with the injury-riddled Wizards, averaging 5.5 points in 21.2 minutes per game in four appearances with the team. Schofield’s best performance of the week came against the Pistons when he scored nine points on 4-8 (.500) shooting and finished plus-seven in the win over Detroit.

Capital City Go-Go vs. Iowa Wolves // December 19 // Mandalay Bay Events Center

The Go-Go fell behind early against the Iowa Wolves and were unable to overcome the first-half deficit Thursday night in their first game of the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase. Capital City’s Jalen Jones scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading five Go-Go players scoring in double figures. Jerian Grant put up a balanced 15 points, six rebounds and five assists while Noah Allen put up his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, Capital City shot just 39.3% from the field and 34.3% from 3-point range. The Go-Go made a bit of a push in the third quarter, outscoring Iowa 38-22, but the Wolves closed the game out in the fourth quarter, outscoring Capital City by three on their way to a 15-point win.

Capital City Go-Go vs. Austin Spurs // December 21 // Mandalay Bay Events Center

For the second game in a row, it was the first half that did the Go-Go in, falling behind this time by 22 after two quarters. Capital City trailed by just four after the first quarter, but a 29-11 second quarter performance by the Austin Spurs carried them to a 111-96 win over the Go-Go on Saturday night at the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase. Jalen Jones again led the Go-Go in scoring, 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in his fourth double-double of the season. Jerian Grant scored 19 points and registered a game-high eight assists, tying his season high. Austin was led by 31 points from center Drew Eubanks and 53 bench points.

The Go-Go are back in D.C. this weekend, hosting games this Friday and Sunday at Entertainment & Sports Arena. On Friday, Capital City hosts the Maine Red Claws (10-5) at 7:00 P.M. and on Sunday, the Windy City Bulls (9-7) at 6:00 P.M. The Go-Go have yet to face either of this weekend’s opponents this season.
