SUNS SELECT TOUMANI CAMARA WITH 52ND OVERALL PICK IN 2023 NBA DRAFT

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns selected forward Toumani Camara from the University of Dayton with the 52nd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Camara (6-8, 220 pounds) was a four-year college basketball standout, playing his final two seasons at Dayton after two years at the University of Georgia. With the Flyers this past season, Camara averaged 13.9 points on 54.6% shooting, 8.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game, all of which were career highs, earning selection to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team. He averaged 11.0 points on 51.3% shooting and 6.9 rebounds over 125 games (116 starts) throughout his college career at Dayton and Georgia combined.

A native of Brussels, Belgium, Camara would become just the fourth Belgian-born player in NBA history when he makes his league debut, joining Tony Parker, Xavier Henry and Frank Ntilikina, though those first three were all raised in other countries. Camara represented his home country in the 2016 FIBA U16 European Championship before moving to the United States to attend high school, where he played four years at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida.

Camara’s name is pronounced too-MAH-nee cuh-MAR-uh.
