Game Recap

The Atlanta Hawks have controlled the series with the Pacers over the past few years. Entering Tuesday night's game, they had won 13 of the past 15 meetings, including four in a row and two games this season. Thanks to a balanced attack—seven Pacers scored in double-figures—Indiana ended the skid while extending their home streak to 15 consecutive wins with a 114-103 decision. That streak is their longest since winning 25 in a row during the 1999-2000 season.

Pacers big man Roy Hibbert, who went scoreless in the last meeting between these teams, made a point to be active once the ball was tipped. He had a hand in six of the team's first seven field goals, knocking down four shots and assisting on two plays. One of his dimes came on a rare no-look pass inside the paint to Paul George who finished with a reverse slam. The Pacers went ahead as many as six, but then the Hawks made a push.

In the second, Atlanta built a 12-point lead, 43-31, using a 10-3 run. That's when Pacers coach Frank Vogel sent all five starters back in. Over the final five minutes of the half, the Pacers outscored the Hawks 19-6 to go into the break with a 50-49 lead.

The third quarter was an efficient one for the blue and gold. They only trailed for 15 seconds
and extended their lead to 11 entering the fourth. D.J. Augustin had seven points and two assists
in less than five minutes of action. He was also involved in a play that had to be reviewed—resulting in a technical foul on him and a flagrant called on Al Horford—and delayed the game over 10 minutes.

The Hawks got within eight on a Jeff Teague layup that accounted for two of his 24 points with 3:58 left. The Pacers were fouled on their next three possessions and they put the game away with six foul shots. Up 12 with less than two minutes to play, Vogel took out the starters to a loud applause and sent in the guys at the end of the bench. One streak ends and another continues as the Pacers drop the Hawks, 114-103.

Following the game, the Pacers flew to Philadelphia, where they’ll face the Sixers Wednesday night and complete the league’s only back-to-back-to-back series of games.

Inside the Numbers

All five starters plus two reserves—Ian Mahinmi (12 points) and D.J. Augustin (10)—finished in double-figures, led by 29 from Paul George. David West had 13 points, seven rebounds, five steals, four assists and three blocks. George Hill tallied 15 points and eight assists.

Indy native Jeff Teague came within four points of his career-high, recording 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, and assisting on eight baskets. Al Horford contributed 15 points and eight rebounds before fouling out and Josh Smith was held to nine points.

Paul George held Kyle Korver to 10 points on 3-of-13 shooting. Korver leads the NBA in three-point percentage (47) but tonight made just two of nine tries.

The Pacers assisted on 28 of 36 (78 percent) field goals.

For the six-straight game, the Pacers knocked down at least 44 percent of their shots; in five of those six games, they’ve eclipsed the 100-point mark.

Indiana’s 114 points are a season-high in regulation.

Stat of the Game

Due to the amount of fouls called (59) and a review delay that lasted over 10 minutes, the game lasted 2 hours and 34 minutes, officially.

Quotable

"I’m really proud of the effort tonight on the second night of a back-to-back. A gutsy win, a team win. (We got) a lot of contributions from a lot of different guys. This team plays with a lot of grit, a lot of hustle, a lot of unselfishness." – Frank Vogel on the win

"The offense is really starting to come. That's what's exciting because the way this group defends and the length that they have defensively, being the best defensive team in the NBA, to start scoring the ball the way we’re scoring it, we've got a real chance to do some special things this year. And they’re all good guys. I love coaching this team." – Frank Vogel

"They're a fun team to watch, a fun team to coach. I’m really proud of how we’re playing at home. I’m hopeful that all you Pacers fans sitting at home watching on TV start coming out and seeing us because this is a special team... and we're playing at a special level." – Frank Vogel to the fans

"We know they’re tough because they’ve got versatility all over the place…We knew we’d have our hands full. They’re athletic and have so many forwards so we figured we would just come out and grind it out. We got off to a slow start but we eventually made enough plays." – David West

"It’s just fun basketball right now. Everyone is sharing the ball, playing for one another, rooting for the open guy and creating for one another." – Paul George

"When they’re making those shots they’re a tough team to beat. David West was making shots, Paul George was making shots and Lance Stephenson was knocking down threes." – Hawks guard Jeff Teague

Noteworthy

  • The Hawks were without Devin Harris and Zaza Pachulia due to injuries.
  • Pacers Director of Media Relations David Benner and the Television Voice Chris Denari took part in slingshot bowling during a timeout.
  • Calbert Cheaney, an Indiana grad and the Big Ten's All-Time leading scorer, sat courtside.
