7‑Seed and 8‑Seed Upsets in NBA Playoff History
1 / 30The NBA amended its playoff format following the 1982-83 season, expanding from six teams representing each conference to eight teams for the following season. Since that expansion, there have been 10 different 7- or 8-seeds to pull off upsets in the First Round of the playoffs. With the Pacers entering the 2017 NBA Playoffs as the Eastern Conference's 7-seed, we decided to look back at those successful 7- and 8-seeds in playoff history. In fact, three current Pacers’ players, Monta Ellis, Thaddeus Young, and Lavoy Allen, were members of 7- or 8-seed teams to upset higher-seeded teams.
