Boyle Named Indiana Sportscaster Of The Year

The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association has named our very own Pacers broadcaster Mark Boyle as Indiana’s Sportscaster of the Year. Boyle, whose voice can be heard over the airwaves of Pacers Radio Network/107.5/1070 The Fan, has covered over 2000 Pacers games in over two and a half decades with the Blue-and-Gold.

On his Twitter account (@Mark_J_Boyle), he shared his thoughts on the accolade.

Aside from his impeccable sports commentating, Boyle also writes a blog featured on Pacers.com called Destination Unknown With Mark Boyle, where he shares a potpourri of stories and experiences as he travels the 82-game season with the Pacers. In November, Boyle wrote a post titled “Family, Loss, and Regret” which told about his brother who is battling terminal cancer. The story was shared throughout media outlets around the country, including a Best Journalism of 2014 list compiled by Sports Illustrated media critic Richard Deitsch.

It’s been quite a year for the Pacers’ radio broadcasters. In June, Bobby “Slick” Leonard, Boyle’s co-broadcaster in the booth, was honored with a documentary about his life titled “Heart of a Hoosier” and was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

This was the third time Boyle has been named the NSSA Indiana Sportscaster of the Year, and he is already a member of the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame.
