DENVER, July 8, 2022 – The Denver Nuggets have signed two-time MVP center Nikola Jokić to a multiyear contract extension, KSE Vice Chairman Josh Kroenke and General Manager Calvin Booth announced today.

Jokić was named the 2021-22 KIA NBA MVP, becoming the 13th player in NBA history to earn back-to-back MVP’s and the first center to do so since Moses Malone in 1982-83. He was the first player in NBA history to average 25+ points, 13+ rebounds and 6+ assists for an entire season and he also became the first player in NBA history to record at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists in a single season. Joker became the first Nugget in franchise history to be named the league’s Most Valuable Player after his stellar 2020-21 campaign earned him that distinction.

Jokić was again named All-NBA First Team in 2021-22, becoming the first Nugget to earn All-NBA team honors in four straight seasons. His three career First Team selections surpasses David Thompson for the most in franchise history. He also earned his fourth consecutive All-Star nomination this past season, including two straight as an All-Star starter. He has been named Western Conference Player of the Month four times in his career, the most in franchise history.

Joker averaged career-highs across the board in 2021-22 with 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists in 33.5 minutes per game. He shot a career-high from the field (.583) while adding a career-high 1.47 steals and a career-high .85 blocks per game. He registered NBA season highs with 19 triple-doubles and 66 double-doubles, passing Fat Lever for most triple-doubles in a single season by a Nugget and surpassing his own 60 double-doubles in 2020-21 for most in a season by a Nugget. He led the NBA in PER (Player Efficiency Rating), finished 1st in total rebounds (2nd in rpg), 5th in total points (6th in ppg), 6th in total assists (8th in apg), 10th in total steals (12th in spg), 8th in field goal percentage and 4th in true shooting percentage.

The Sombor, Serbia native was originally drafted by Denver with the 41st pick of the 2014 NBA Draft. He became the lowest draft position to win the MVP (previous Nash & Antetokounmpo at 15th overall) and the first center to win MVP since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000. Jokić has appeared in 527 career games (486 starts) for the Nuggets and owns career averages of 19.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.20 steals per game. DENVER, Mar. 23, 2022 – The Denver Nuggets and Head Coach Michael Malone have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, Governor E. Stanley Kroenke, Vice Chairman Josh Kroenke and President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly announced today. Per team policy the details of the extension were not released.

Head Coach Michael Malone is in his seventh season with Denver after being hired in June of 2015. He is currently the fifth longest tenured coach in the NBA and his 309 wins as Nuggets head coach rank third in franchise history. The Nuggets have seen the postseason in each of the last three seasons including a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2020, the first for the franchise since 2009. The Nuggets owned the best record in the Western Conference from the start of the 2018-19 season through 2020-21 and trail only the Milwaukee Bucks for the most combined regular season and postseason wins over the last three-plus seasons (210). Malone has totaled 20 postseason victories, good for fourth all-time in franchise history and is only four wins behind Doug Moe (24) for first all-time.

“This extension is well deserved for Coach Malone and one we are very excited to announce,” stated Nuggets Governor E. Stanley Kroenke. “You can easily point to the on-court success that Michael has brought and the improvements the team has made each year under his watch, and you can also point to the selfless, hard-working culture that has developed and grown during his tenure. We look forward to Coach Malone continuing on the sidelines as we all work toward our goal of bringing an NBA Championship to the city of Denver.”

Last season saw Coach Malone lead the Nuggets to a 47-25 record in a 72-game shortened season as they clinched a playoff berth for the third straight year. Denver finished the season tying a franchise record with 22 road wins, securing the third seed in the Western Conference and became the only team in the NBA to have home-court advantage in the playoffs in each of the last three seasons.

In the playoffs, despite missing Jamal Murray due to injury, Malone helped lead the Nuggets to a 4-2 first round series victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. It was a historic series win for Denver as they won a playoff series in three straight seasons for the first time in franchise history. It marked the fourth playoff series win in the last three seasons, after winning a total of four in the last 32 years. It was also the first time in Nuggets history they clinched a best of seven series on the road (excluding the bubble).

Through 546 games as Denver’s head coach, Malone has compiled a record of 309-237 (.566), ranking him third in franchise history in wins among head coaches.

DENVER NUGGETS AND HEAD COACH MICHAEL MALONE AGREE TO CONTRACT EXTENSION

Thursday was Signing Day for Nuggets shooting guard Gary Harris. But this was no college commitment. This was a signature on his newest contract, keeping him with the Nuggets for the foreseeable future.

“I’m happy, I’m excited,” Harris said. “I finally got it signed, all set, ready to go, four more years. Love the team, love the organization, love the city. So I couldn’t be happier.”

The Nuggets are just as happy to retain one of the team’s key cogs in last year’s seven-game improvement. Harris’ game improved along with the team.

Gary Harris shook off considerable missed time due to early injuries to put together his best statistical season, averaging career highs in points (14.9), rebounds (3.1) and assists (2.9). He nearly averaged a career high in steals (1.2) as well. Harris finished in the NBA’s top 10 in 3-point percentage (42.0), and shot a career-high 50.2 percent from the field overall. Harris hit 77.6 percent from the free throw line.

“He’s really emblematic of the program we’re trying to build,” president of basketball operations, Tim Connelly, said. “He came in as kind of a scrawny 19-year old, struggled his first year, continued to work on his craft, got better and better, was given opportunities and ran with them. Never deviated from his desire to be here.”

And so he’ll stay at least four more seasons. Harris reflected on a wild summer in which his name was reported in trade rumors, then was part of the pitch to get then-free agent Paul Millsap, and then flew to Denver from Indiana to be part of the Nuggets’ new uniform reveal.

“It’s a business,” Harris said. “I couldn’t look into it too much. I just had to be professional about everything I did. Everything ended up working out. I really didn’t think too much about it. I’m happy where I’m at. It was a crazy summer, but fall is here and it’s time to get started.”

But first, the Fishers, Indiana, native took a moment to reflect on his time in Denver.

“Going back to my rookie season, things were a little shaky,” Harris said, smiling. “But you know, it’s been fun. It’s been a journey. I wouldn’t change anything. Everything that happened help me get to this point, and I think it kind of helped me out in the long run, especially the rough start I had. Just made me appreciate things more, made me work that much harder. And I’m in a great situation now.”

Gary Harris Excited to Be Staying in Denver with a New Contract Extension

The Denver Nuggets have signed guard Gary Harris to a contract extension, President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly announced today.

Harris, 23, had the most productive year of his young career last season, averaging 14.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.25 steals per game in 57 contests (56 starts). He also shot .502 from the field and .420 (107-255 3FG) from beyond the arc in 2016-17, ranking eighth in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage and first among all shooting guards in field goal percentage.

Additionally, out of the 155 NBA players that made at least 60 three-pointers this past season, Harris was one of just two that shot over 50% from the field and 40% from long range. He became just the second Nugget in team history to accomplish this feat as well.

The Fishers, Indiana native was acquired by the Nuggets in a draft-night trade after he was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 19th pick of the 2014 NBA Draft. He has appeared in 188 career games (138 starts) over three seasons with Denver, averaging 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.10 steals in 26.3 minutes per game. Harris has improved his points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, field goal percentage and three-point shooting percentage in each of his first three seasons.
