Nuggets host Trail Blazers on Monday

The Denver Nuggets got their first win of the Emirates NBA Cup and defeated the Phoenix Suns, 127-120. They're now tied with the Dallas Mavericks for the best record in Western Conference Group A at 1-0.

Given that Friday's game also counted toward the regular season standings, the Nuggets are now 3-2 to begin the year.

Denver will now face the Houston Rockets on November 20th, the Dallas Mavericks on November 24th, and the Utah Jazz on November 27th to wrap up the NBA Cup Group Stage. Should they finish with the best record in Group A, or secure one of the two Western Conference wild cards, they'll advance to the Knockout Stage of the tournament.

Outside of the strong start to the NBA Cup, the story of the night was Denver's backcourt. Jamal Murray and Christian Braun each hit seven three-pointers, becoming the first Nuggets duo to do so in franchise history.

Let's start with Braun, who not only knocked down a career-best seven threes, but also notched a new career high in points with 31. He made six of those threes before halftime.

As for Murray, he scored a team-high 39 points, fueled by 7-of-9 shooting from distance. Jamal has scored 39 or more points twice in his first five games.

Collectively, the Nuggets were incredibly efficient from the field, scoring on 52.5 percent of their shots and 54.1 percent of their three-pointers. All five of their starters (Murray, Braun, Cam Johnson, Aaron Gordon, and Nikola Jokić) reached double figures for the second consecutive game.

The NBA's inaugural in-season tournament, the Emirates NBA Cup, kicks off on Friday across the league. All 30 teams will compete for the NBA Cup trophy, with a winner crowned at the Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 11th. To begin, teams are separated into six different groups for the NBA Cup Group Stage.

Denver is a part of Western Conference Group A, where they'll play the Houston Rockets, the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Utah Jazz. Should they finish with Group A's best overall record, or lock in a wild card spot, they'll advance to the Knockout Stage. From there, they'll battle with teams from the other groups in a single-elimination tournament, similar to the NCAA's March Madness.

All Group Stage games will count toward the regular season standings. That includes Friday's showdown with the Suns, who have started the season at 1-2. The Nuggets, meanwhile, are hoping to go above .500 for the first time this season, sitting at 2-2.

Some exciting news for the Nuggets is that Cam Johnson and Alpha Diallo have been upgraded to questionable for Friday. It remains to be seen if they'll actually suit up for the game against the Suns, but this injury update certainly indicates they're trending in the right direction.

Nuggets play Suns in first Emirates NBA Cup game

The Denver Nuggets got their first road win of the season and took down the New Orleans Pelicans, 104-91.

Denver got off to a hot start and built a lead that swelled to as many as 22 points in the first half. New Orleans battled back in the second half, getting the deficit down to just 5 points in the fourth quarter, but some clutch three-pointers from Christian Braun secured the victory for the Nuggets.

However, the story of the game was Nikola Jokić, who recorded his 200th career triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. Only Russell Westbrook is ahead of Jokić on the triple-double leaderboard with 209.

Aaron Gordon notched his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Jamal Murray turned in another strong outing with 23 points on 5-of-11 from three-point range and 11 assists.

Denver plays New Orleans for the second time in four games.

They hosted the Pelicans in their home opener and won, 141-135, in an overtime thriller. Jamal Murray had a 40-point night, but the story of the game was rookie Trevon Brazile, who put up 17 points and 9 rebounds in just his second NBA game. Brazile was fearless down the stretch and knocked down multiple three-pointers. He also got it done on the defensive end with a pair of three-point blocks. Behind Brazile, Murray, and Nikola Jokić's first triple-double of the season, Denver rallied back from a 22-point second-half deficit, tied for the largest second-half home comeback in franchise history.

The Nuggets then lost to the Golden State Warriors, putting them at 1-2 to begin the season.

The Denver Nuggets lost to the Golden State Warriors, 134-114, on Monday night. They're now 1-2 to start the season.

Nikola Jokić had a near triple-double with 19 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists. He also recorded three blocks and one steal.

Rookie Bryce Hopkins had the best game of his young NBA career, totaling 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, three rebounds, and one assist. He was particularly imposing on his drives to the rim and hustled throughout Monday's game.

Off the bench, DeMar DeRozan put up 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting, 2-of-5 from three-point range, and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. He also recorded four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.

The Nuggets take on the Warriors, who have had a disappointing start to the season at 0-3.

Denver, meanwhile, is 1-1 following Saturday's thrilling comeback against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Nuggets were down by as many as 22 points in the second half, but they rallied back behind Jamal Murray's 42-point performance. Rookie Trevon Brazile was a standout in his second NBA game, as he put up 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 28 minutes off the bench.

This was the Nuggets' sixth 22-point second-half comeback in franchise history. It was an exhilarating start to the year at Ball Arena.

It's likely that Denver is shorthanded in Monday's game. Julian Strawther (left knee) and Spencer Jones (hamstring) are still recovering from preseason injuries. Cam Johnson (right ankle) and Alpha Diallo (right wrist) got hurt in Denver's season opener against Oklahoma City and are listed as doubtful against Golden State.
