NBA 2K23 Summer League: Balanced Wizards cruise past Suns

Vernon Carey Jr. posts a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double as the Wizards run out early and never relent.

Game Recap: Wizards 97, Suns 72

Vernon Carey Jr. scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Washington Wizards to a 97-72 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the NBA 2K23 Summer League on Sunday at Thomas and Mack Center. 

The Wizards had a strong start and secured a seven-point lead after one quarter. They picked up the pace in the second and outscored the Suns, 31-19, to make it a 19-point game by halftime. The Suns came out better in the third, but they could not cut into the deficit and trailed by 20 points entering the fourth. The Wizards didn’t look back and held on for the impressive win. 

Carey Jr. also logged 11 rebounds and two blocks to lift the Wizards. Jaime Echenique followed up with 12 points and six rebounds, while Tyler Hall and Johnny Davis added 11 points each. 

On the other side, Tyson Carter led the Suns with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals in 19 minutes off the bench. Ish Wainright followed up with 11 points and five rebounds, while Louis King chipped in 10 points, three rebounds and a steal. 

The Suns will look to bounce back as they face the Mavericks on Tuesday (10:30 ET, ESPN). The Wizards go up against the Pelicans on Wednesday (6 ET, NBA TV).
