Josh Hart signs reported 4-year extension with Knicks

Versatile swingman Josh Hart played 25 games for New York in 2022-23 and was a key performer in the playoffs.

Josh Hart has become a vital piece of the Knicks’ rotation.

The Knicks and swingman Josh Hart are staying together for a few more seasons. The team announced on Aug. 10 that Hart has signed an extension, a deal that is reportedly for four years and $81 million.

Hart appeared in 25 games for the Knicks after being dealt in a four-team swap at last season’s trade deadline that took him from Portland to New York. He made a strong impact almost immediately, averaging 10.2 points, seven rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 25 games. He shot 58.6% overall and 51.9% on 3-pointers as well in a reserve role during the regular season.

In the playoffs, Hart essentially split time between a reserve and starting role. He appeared in 11 games (five of which were starts) and posted 10.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg and 2.2 apg on 47.9% shooting (31.3% on 3-pointers). Hart had several key performances in the Knicks’ first-round series win against the Cleveland Cavaliers, including a 19-point showing in Game 4 and a 12-rebound effort in the Game 5 series clincher.

Hart is on Team USA at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and is joined there by his Knicks teammate Jalen Brunson.

The Knicks won a playoff series for the first time in a decade last season after signing Brunson in the summer and acquiring Hart. Brunson and Hart were teammates at Villanova and teamed up in New York. In 2023-24, the Knicks will have another ex-Wildcat teammate in their mix after New York signed Donte DiVincenzo in the offseason. Brunson and DiVincenzo were part of two NCAA championship teams with the Wildcats, with Hart joining them on the first one.
