Kings announce De'Aaron Fox out indefinitely with sprained ankle

Sacramento will be without its All-Star floor general for the foreseeable future.

De’Aaron Fox initially returned from his injured ankle on Sunday before ultimately exiting for good.

The thrill of Sacramento’s overtime win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday was blunted by an injury to the team’s All-Star point guard, De’Aaron Fox.

The 25-year-old landed awkwardly after a drive to the basket in the fourth quarter, left the game, returned, then exited for good with 37 points.

The Kings announced on Monday that imaging revealed Fox had suffered a “moderate” sprain of his right ankle and will miss Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. His availability “will be determined at a later date,” the team said.

Fox, who added All-NBA Third Team honors to his resume last season as well, averaged 31.3 points while shooting 48.6% over the Kings’ first three games of the new season. The former fifth overall pick was the engine behind Sacramento snapping its league-worst 16-year playoff drought last year.
