Grizzlies re-sign Toney Douglas to 10-day contract

MEMPHIS – Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace today announced the team has signed re-signed guard Toney Douglas to a 10-day contract and waived forward Troy Williams.

Douglas (6-2, 195) originally signed with Memphis as a free agent on Dec. 5 pursuant to the NBA’s hardship rule. He appeared in six games as a reserve and averaged 5.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 17.8 minutes before he was waived on Dec. 15. The 30-year-old scored in double figures twice during his first stint with the Grizzlies, including a season-high 14 points in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 14.

Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round (29th overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft following his senior season at Florida State University, the Jonesboro, Ga. native has appeared in 376 regular season games (65 starts) and averaged 7.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 19.2 minutes during his eight-year NBA career with the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies.

Williams (6-7, 218) appeared in 24 games (13 starts) for the Grizzlies during his rookie season and has averaged 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.00 steals in 17.4 minutes. The 22-year-old also competed in 11 games (two starts) with the NBA Development League’s Iowa Energy and averaged 14.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.2 minutes. With the waiver, Williams automatically has been recalled from the Energy.

A native of Hampton, Va., Williams went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft after his junior season at Indiana University and signed with Memphis as a free agent on Aug. 8, 2016.
