Grizzlies bounce back with win over Magic, 95-94

The Grizzlies overcame a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Orlando Magic 95-94 Thursday night at FedExForum. The win extends Memphis’ home winning streak against Orlando to nine. Orlando hasn’t won in Memphis since January 23, 2008. It also gives the Grizzlies a 5-0 record on the second night of back-to-backs this season.

Tonight’s game also concluded a seven-game stretch that consisted solely of Eastern Conference opponents.

Down 85-71 with 6:12 remaining in the game, the Grizzlies went on a 13-0 run fueled by three Tony Allen steals to pull within one with 3:29 remaining. Orlando would eventually lead 94-90 with 59.6 remaining in the game, but a JaMychal Green three-pointer followed by two Marc Gasol free throws with 12.2 seconds left gave the Grizzlies their final lead and their first lead since the 9:30 mark in the second quarter.

The Grizzlies started and finished the game on fire. In the first and fourth quarters, the Grizzlies scored 30 points apiece. However, during the second and third quarters, Memphis scored 35 points total.

Troy Daniels continued his hot streak off the bench by tying a season-high 19 points. It was his second straight game of 16-or-more points, marking the first such instance of his career. Daniels also became the first Grizzlies player to score 19-or-more points off the bench in two straight games since Jeff Green (four straight, Jan. 25-Feb. 1, 2016).

Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 25 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. It marks his ninth game with 20-or-more points. Andrew Harrison chipped in with 11 points and a team-high eight assists. Since being inserted into the starting lineup following Mike Conley’s injury, Harrison is averaging 16.0 points and 6.0 assists in two games.

Evan Fournier led the Magic, scoring 12 of his 28 points in the first quarter. He shot 11-of-14 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Nikola Vucevic posted his 10th double-double of the season (18 points, 11 rebounds). Bismack Biyombo had a season-high 14 rebounds.
