Rivers Named L.A. News Group’s Sports Person Of Year

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. – Clippers head coach Doc Rivers has been named the L.A. News Group’s Sports Person of the Year.

Rivers is the 10th recipient of the honor, which has previously gone to Magic Johnson and the Dodgers’ ownership team, David Beckham and Tim Leiweke, among others.

The Clippers’ head coach was given the honor mostly for his actions and ability to coach through the trials and tribulations the Clippers faced late last season and keep the team afloat.

Or, as Tom Hoffarth from the L.A. Daily News put it: “For the way he showed by example how to lead through adversity, keep priorities in order and not become the story, Rivers gets our headline, the distinction as the 10th recipient of the Los Angeles News Group Sports Person of the Year.”

Last year, the honor was given to Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig. Here is the full story recognizing Rivers as the L.A. News Group’s Sports Person of the Year.
