CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers brought joy to Northeast Ohio this holiday season with their annual "Cavaliers Season of Giving" championed by Cleveland-Cliffs.

Through a series of 24 events, the Cavaliers impacted over 65,000 community members needing extra support and love during the holiday season. This included packing over 63,500 shelf-stable meals, delivering 1,000 winter coats and hats to children, donating over 680 books promoting literacy, visiting pediatric patients in the hospital and much more. This annual initiative continues to showcase the organization's dedication to giving back and making a positive impact, particularly during the holiday period when many in the community need it most.

"Cavaliers Season of Giving embodies our team’s commitment to making a positive impact across Northeast Ohio,” said Kevin Clayton, Cleveland Cavaliers Chief Impact Officer. "Our entire front office, team and coaching staff gets involved, and it is truly a way for us to rally around the community that supports us day in and day out.”

The annual giving initiative features a series of events supporting many different community members with coat drives, shopping surprises, food drives, assembling holiday cards for the Cleveland VA Hospital, and more. A selection of events from this year’s Cavaliers Season of Giving follows:

Kids Coat Distribution with The New Store

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland-Cliffs assisted in distributing new winter coats to 800 kids and provided snacks to children from the Mansfield Community as part of The New Store program. All winter coats were new, offering kids a variety of high-quality, brand-name coats to keep students warm during the winter months.

The Cavaliers worked with Cleveland Metropolitan School District's Project ACT, a program dedicated to supporting homeless children and families, to serve a group of 200 people. Families enjoyed turkey and all the traditional fixings of a holiday meal at the dinner, served by Cavs players, coaches, members of senior leadership and team members.

Holiday Food Distribution at May Dugan Center

In partnership with Greater Cleveland Food Bank, volunteers from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse helped pack fresh and shelf-stable food and distributed it to local neighbors. During the distribution, the Cavs unveiled a new Cavaliers-branded 28-foot refrigerated produce truck utilized to deliver the distributed food. The team packaged and distributed nearly 6,000 meals to members of the local community.

Giant Eagle Supermarket Surprise and Delight

Several Giant Eagle customers were surprised to find Darius Garland and Jaylon Tyson as their register clerks when checking out groceries. Not only did they ring up items, but they also took care of the bill, offering an amazing act of kindness right before the holidays.

The 2024 Cavaliers Season of Giving offered a diverse range of events to benefit all community members. These efforts and more were made possible through collaborations with various community partners. Organizations such as Cleveland-Cliffs, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, American Cancer Society, Cleveland Clinic, Children's Hunger Alliance and Giant Eagle played crucial roles in supporting these community-focused initiatives.

Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad Crump and the Cavs Dance Team, along with UPS representatives stopped in at Fire-Dex in Medina, StoveGuard in Independence and the Item Bazaar storefront, Electronic Flip in Warrensville Heights to drop off Cavs swag and Crumbl cookies to show appreciation for their long hours during this hectic time of the year. “Small and family-owned businesses are the pillars of the Cleveland community,” said Shelly Cayette, Cavaliers Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. “This holiday season, we’re thrilled to partner with UPS to show appreciation to Fire-Dex, StoveGuard and Item Bazaar employees during one of the busiest times of the year.”

Cinemark at Valley View turned into Who-ville on Saturday, but Alec Burks was anything but The Grinch. On the contrary: instead of trying to steal Christmas, Burks and the Cavaliers provided an extra special holiday experience for the Whos….otherwise known as children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland and Lorain.

The Cavs invited 100 kids from the clubs to attend a private party at the theatre, where Burks handed out gifts to everyone. The youngsters were then treated to a private showing of the new movie “The Grinch” and got to enjoy complimentary popcorn and drinks. There were many smiles seen and laughs heard as the kids watched the mean one and his dog Max conspire against the Whos.

And that was just the beginning of the fun day for the kids, which marked the culmination of the Cavs annual Toy Drive, as part of the annual Cavaliers Season of Giving.

Next up: the Cleveland Monsters hockey game! The group made their way to Quicken Loans Arena to watch the Monsters take on the Rochester Americans. They were also treated to food and drinks at the game.

It was a fun, action packed day and a perfect way for the kids to celebrate the holiday season.

About the Cavs and Monsters Toy Drive:
The Cavs and Monsters Toy Drive took place at all Cavs and Monsters home games from November 9th through December 15th. Fans were invited to bring new, unwrapped toys to the games and more than 1,200 items were generously donated! So 1,200 underserved children will receive a new present for the holidays. All the items are being distributed to several nonprofit organizations in the Cleveland area.
