Cleveland Cavaliers to Host Martin Luther King Jr. Night to Honor the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Chicago Bulls Monday, Jan. 15, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.

Cleveland, OH – The Cleveland Cavaliers will commemorate and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day Monday, Jan. 15 as the Cavs take on the Chicago Bulls at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse at 7:00 p.m. The Cavs invite fans to watch their favorite players warm up in special MLK shooting shirts featuring the famous quote, “The time is always right to do what is right.”

“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has inspired people of all generations to create change through advocacy, education, and service within their communities,” said Nic Barlage, Cleveland Cavaliers, Rock Entertainment Group and Rocket Mortgaged FieldHouse CEO. “On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we are honored to join our partners across the league in remembering Dr. King’s legacy and recognizing those who are following in his footsteps to fight for racial justice and equality.”

In the spirit of “a day on, and not a day off” Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Team Members will also be volunteering at City Year Cleveland’s Day of Service events. Team Members will select from service projects at various locations including First Baptist Church, Good Banks NEO and Shoes and Clothes for Kids, and will participate in a lunch discussion on the importance of service and Dr. King’s legacy.

MLK Day game activations include: 

  • National Anthem performance by a Youth Choir from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District at tip-off.
  • Halftime performance by Felicia Temple, a contestant on season 12 of The Voice. Temple is a cancer survivor and registered nurse, who decided to pursue her passion for singing after her time on The Voice in 2017. Temple has surpassed almost two million streams on all digital platforms and has over eight million views on YouTube. 
  • MLK-themed Cavs Entertainment Team dance performance to Respect by Aretha Franklin. 
  • 50/50 proceeds benefiting Partnership For A Safer Cleveland.  
  • The Cavs will recognize Yariselle Andujar & Daniela Moreno from Argonaut as the community “Jif DIFF Makers” of the game. Argonaut is a STEM education leader in the classroom, on the water, and in the air, providing a wide variety of services that all connect back to one shared vision – creating career pathways in the fields of aerospace and maritime.
  • There will be various community groups participating in concourse activations such as the African American Cultural GardensCommunity of Faith CollaborativeOhioCoalition Against Gun Violence and NCAAP – Cleveland Branch.
